J Kumar Infraprojects launches 3 Girders for Mumbai Metro Line 6

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): J Kumar Infraprojects launched three composite girders of 56 m long steel for the 15.18 km Mumbai Metro Line-6 (Pink Line) project, which will connect Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) to Vikhroli through 13 elevated stations.

The girders weighing 240MT were installed at JVLR Junction above the Western Express Highway (WEH), and Line-7’s finished but not yet operational viaduct for Package BC-03 of the project.

On the 13th weekend, two girders were launched; the final one was this past weekend.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded J Kumar – CRTG JV the Rs. 867.75 crore contract for Package BC-03 in August 2018.

Construction of a 6.079 km viaduct from chainage – 822.508m to 5257.400m, with five stops at Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala), Adarsh Nagar, Jogeshwari (W), JVLR, and Shyam Nagar (Majas Depot), is included in their scope.

An approximately 300-meter foot overbridge (FOB) that connects the paid concourse areas of Line-6 and Line-7 stations at JVLR Junction will progressively slope downward from Line-6 (height of 33.8m) to Line-7 (23.34m).

J Kumar launched a 48-meter unique steel girder across Line-2A near Infinity Mall in April 2022.

Since Line-6’s key systems (rolling stock, signalling, communication, etc.) have yet to be put out to bid, commercial operations are expected to begin in 2025.

8 bidders submit bids for Feasibility Report of Chennai Metro Phase 2 Extension

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Eight design and engineering firms have submitted bids to prepare three detailed feasibility reports (DFR) for extending the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project by 93 kms to connect Kilambakkam, Parandur Airport, and Avadi.

Three corridors are currently being built as part of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.’s (CMRL) Phase 2 project for the city: Line-3 (Madhavaram-Siruseri), Line-4 (Lighthouse-Poonamallee), and Line-5 (47 km).

The ambitious new extensions for the project include the following extensions:

Line-3: Siruseri to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus via Kelambakkam (26 km)

Line-4: Poonamallee to Parandur Airport (50 km)

Line-5: Koyambedu to Avadi via Thirumangalam, Mugappair (17 km)

In September 2022, CMRL floated a tender for the line’s feasibility contract (3 packages), which had a 120-day completion deadline. Instead, technical bids were opened at the end of October.

The brief Scope of the project includes the Selection of a Consultant for the Preparation of a Detailed Feasibility Study Report for the Extension of Chennai Metro Rail Phase –II Corridors.

The chosen consultant for each package will review the city’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) and current transportation choices to create a feasibility report, which will happen around 2023.

Compared to the 9.051 km Phase 1 extension project (Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar), this extension will be far more expensive.

Paras RailTech bags contract of Track Work for Delhi Metro Pink Line Extension

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded Paras Railtech Pvt. Ltd. a contract worth Rs. 67.67 crores to supply and install standard gauge tracks for the Pink Line (Line-7) Extension of the Delhi Metro.

Longjian – KEC JV is extending the city’s Pink Line in the Delhi Metro Phase 4 project by 12.375 km from Maujpur to Majlis Park. With a 30-month completion deadline, they were given the Rs. 1,080 crores civil construction contract for Package DC-02 in November 2019.

In May 2022, DMRC issued a call for bids for its track-work contract, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with an undetermined cost and a 730-day (2-year) deadline. Three bidders were identified once the technical proposals were opened in July: Paras Railtech, Apurvakriti Infrastructure, and Rahee Infratech.

Brief Scope of the project Installation, testing, and commissioning of ballastless track including supply of fastening system, buffer stop, and others for Line-7 ext (Maujpur-Majlis Park) (CH. 0.0M TO CH. 12098.520 M) of Delhi MRTS Project of Phase-IV.

This extension contains eight stops at Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Sonia Vihar, Wazirabad Surghat, Jagatpur Village, Jharoda Majra, and Burari in addition to a 12.375 km viaduct, bridge over the Yamuna River, and a PWD double-decker flyover.

For the new Pink Line 560-metre bridge over the Yamuna River, Longjian – KEC JV inaugurated their first cantilever construction (CLC) gantry back in March 2022.

Ayesa bags contract of Central Vista APM Metro’s Design from DMRC

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded Ayesa India Pvt. Ltd. an Rs. 7.48 crore contract for the Detailed Design Consultant (D.D.C.) service of a new Automated People Mover (A.P.M.) system under Delhi’s Central Vista.

This company and its Spanish parent company Ayesa Ingeniera y Arquitectura S.A.U, submitted a bid for this contract (Package DCCD-04). They would create and suggest alternative designs for all civil, architectural, building service, electrical, and mechanical works.

The roughly 3 km long underground A.P.M. ring line in Delhi, which has four proposed stations, will link the Central Secretariat Station, which serves the yellow and violet lines of the Delhi Metro, with new governance structures that will be constructed as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment project.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in February 2022 for development of the project by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and DMRC.

Then, in May 2022, DMRC issued a tender notice for its D.D.C. contract with an Rs. 8.07 crore estimated value and a 2880-day (7.89 years) deadline. Finally, technical bids were disclosed in August, revealing that four design and engineering firms had submitted a bid.

The project’s scope includes the Engagement of a Detail Design Consultant (D.D.C.) for Civil, Architectural and Building Services, including E and M work for the proposed underground Automatic People Mover (A.P.M.) system at Central Vista.

DMRC prepared the system’s Detailed Project Report (D.P.R.), expecting a peak demand of 20,000 passengers per hour during morning and evening hours.

NCC inaugurates Viaduct’s last Segment of Pune Metro

PUNE (Metro Rail News): NCC Ltd., on October 31, celebrates the launch of the 10.795 km Reach-1 (PCMC – Range Hills) section of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line, which will connect PCMC – Swargate through 14 stations.

NCC was given the construction of the 31.254 km Reach 1 viaduct for the Pune Metro Phase 1 project in February 2017 with a contract of Rs. 499.01 crores. Its 6 km Priority Section between PCMC and Phugewadi was inaugurated in March 2022. Still, work on the remaining sections (Phugewadi to Range Hills) has been severely hampered by problems with land acquisition.

NCC used a casting yard at Tathawade to support the construction of this section, and 3900 segments were cast, with the final one being cast a few days earlier on October 19, 2022.

Typically, each segment is 3 metres long, 8.5 metres wide at the top, and 3.5 metres wide at the bottom, weighing around 37 MT. Similar to the segments cast in Nagpur, segments in Pune have been merged and cast alongside a parapet wall (unique in Indian metropolises) to reduce construction time, transportation time, and the expense of separate casting mould purchases.

In March 2018, the first section of Old Mumbai Road was opened using the underslung constructing technique and a mobile crane. Coincidentally, a mobile crane was also used to launch the final segment close to Khadki.

PCMC, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari (Nashik Phata), Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Khadki, and Range Hills are the locations of nine stations on Reach-1 by HCC – Al Fara’a JV.

NCC launched its final segment of 7.15 kilometre Reach 2 (Vanaz – Civil Court) of the Aqua Line in western Pune in July 2022.

With this achievement, the only remaining portion of Phase 1 where J Kumar Infraprojects has not completed viaduct work is 7.578 km Reach 3 (Civil Court – Ramwadi) in eastern Pune.

Dilip Buildcon debuts package 1 last segment of Bhopal Metro

MADHYA PRADESH (Metro Rail News): On November 2, Dilip Buildcon Ltd. (DBL) debuted the last of 1851 precast segments for the 6.225 km Package 1 (Subhash Nagar – AIIMS) viaduct of the Bhopal Metro Phase 1 project.

Dilip Buildcon started construction on Package 1, the first segment of the 14.99 km Purple Line (Line-2) of the Bhopal Metro, which connects Karond Circle to AIIMS, in early 2019. In October 2018, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co Limited (MPMRCL) granted them a contract worth Rs. 247.06 crores with a 27-month completion deadline.

The project’s first 60 MT section was cast in November 2019, and the company started launching portions on Hoshangabad Road in September 2020. Casting for the last segment took place in January 2022.

Dilip Buildcon will also construct an entry/exit ramp to Subhash Nagar Depot, where 27 3-coach Alstom trains for the Purple Line and Red Line will be stabled and serviced, in addition to the elevated viaduct between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS.

URC Construction is constructing stations along the route as part of Package BH-02. They will be situated in Shubhash Nagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, DB City Mall, Sangam Cinema, Himansarovar / Habibganj Station, Habibgang Naka, Alkapuri Bus Stand, and AIIMS.

For the remainder of the Purple Line’s construction, which includes a 3.4 underground segment with two stations at Bhopal Junction Railway Station and Nandra Bus Stand, tender notices are still pending.

2 bidders submit bids for AFC re-engineer contract of Lucknow Metro

LUCKNOW (Metro Rail News): Last week, two firms submitted proposals to re-engineer the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for Lucknow Metro Phase 1 from a closed-loop to an open-loop system (Package LKS-04).

When Line-1’s initial 8.5 km section connecting Transport Nagar and Charbagh opened in September 2017, the original AFC system installed by Datamatics & Mikroelektronika was installed and inaugurated.

With each device linked to a centralised back-office AFC system, the new system will be an end-to-end Open loop system that supports EMV (RuPay/Master/Visa) cards, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and QR code-based ticketing.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) invites bids for this contract in August 2022 with an Rs. 12.12 crore estimate and a 270-day.

Leap Infraasys bags OHE design contract for Noida Metro Extension

NOIDA (Metro Rail News): In the middle of October, Leap Infraasys Pvt. Ltd (LIPL) won the contract to offer Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) services for the Noida Metro Aqua Line’s eastern extension’s 25 kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) system.

Nine stations along this new 14.95 km elevated extension in Greater Noida West, which runs between Sector 51 and Knowledge Park V.

Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has re-invited offers for this contract in May with an Rs. 43.78 lakh estimate and a 910-day (2.5 years) deadline after cancelling the initial tender in April.

Two bidders—Balaji Railroad Systems Pvt. Ltd (BARSYL) and Leap Infraasys Pvt. Ltd—were identified when technical bids were opened in June.

The brief Scope of NMRC’s bids is Detailed Design Consultancy for the Design of a 25 kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) system and Power Supply – SCADA for the Elevated Line of the Aqua line extension Corridor of the Noida Metro Rail Project.

LIPL firm bids amount Rs 36.99 lakh

BARSYL firm bids amount to Rs 37.16 lakh.

A contract should be issued without a lengthy financial evaluation because LIPL’s bid of Rs. 36.99 lakh was significantly lower than NMRC’s estimate.

GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL) was the lowest bidder for the civil construction of this line back in December 2021. Still, a contract has yet to be issued to them because NMRC is awaiting approval from the Central Government.

They have five elevated stations at Noida Sector 122, Noida Sector 123, Greater Noida Sector 4, Ecotech 12 (Tech Zone), and Greater Noida Sector 2 as part of its 9.605 km package that connects Noida Sector-51 to Greater Noida West’s Sector-2.

JSPL bags contract to supply head-hardened rails for Indore and Bhopal metro

INDORE (Metro Rail News): Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL) won the contract in late October to supply 18-meter-long head-hardened rails for the Phase 1 projects of the Indore and Bhopal metro systems.

The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL) issued a tender invitation for this contract (Package BHIN03B) in February with a 1022-day (3-year) timeframe and an undetermined estimate. In July, technical bids were opened, exposing two bidders: JSPL and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. It was discovered during the evaluation, completed on October 15, that Mitsui’s technical bids did not adhere to the requirements of the tender.

JSPL’s Financial Bid: Rs. 138,64,71,000 (138.64 crores)

Brief Scope: Supply of Head Hardened Rails 18 m long UIC 60 60E1 profile IRST 12 2009 1080 Grade HH Class A 8120MT for Bhopal and 8425MT for Indore for Bhopal Metro Rail Project and Indore Metro Rail Project.

MPMRCL’s estimate is still unknown, so an assessment of the chance of an LOA getting issued to JSPL is not provided.

MMRDA re-invited tender for Mumbai Metro Line-4’s Mogharpada Depot

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): In late October, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) issued a new invitation for construction firms to submit bids for the Mogharpada Depot on the Mumbai Metro Green Line (Package CA-160).

This brand-new train repair facility will help maintain the 35.2 km Line-4 & Line-4A, which will run through 34 stops to connect Wadala, Kasaravadavali, and Gaimukh.

The first tender notice was published in August 2020, with a 36-month deadline and an estimated construction cost of Rs. 596.60 crores. However, before the tender’s cancellation in May 2021, MMRDA repeatedly extended the submission date with 14 corrigendum.

According to the amended tender documents, the depot’s layout has significantly changed, and its footprint has decreased from 41 to 35 hectares. While the 36-month contract term stays the same, the estimated cost has shot up to Rs. 711.34 crores.

The brief Scope of the tender includes the Construction of depot infrastructures comprising a stabling yard, operational control centre and administrative building, maintenance and workshop buildings. Auxiliary substation, staff quarters, architectural finishing, plumbing, earthworks for land development, compound wall, road approach, a bridge connecting to the depot, underground utility ducts, drainage system, design and build of ETP and STP, etc., including architectural finishing works and design and build of pre-engineered building structures of car depot at Mogharpada for Metro Line-4 and 4A of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

This Construction follows the MMRDA’s publication of a tender notice for the Construction of Line-5’s Kasheli Depot on a 27.13-hectare land parcel east of Thane.

The double-decker shed-equipped Mogharpada Depot is slightly larger than Mandale Depot on the Yellow Line. Mogharpada Depotwas intended to be the city’s largest metro depot. It will have 16 stabling lines (SBLs) for 32 trains in its new form, with a further 16 SBLs planned in the future. Additionally, it will have five inspection bay lines (IBL), with plans for five more in the future.

39 × 6 trains will initially reside in the depot (plus more in the future for Line-10 & Line-11). Bombardier (owned by Alstom Transport) received an Rs. 1853.28 crore contract for those trains in March 2021; however, Bombardier withdrew in February 2022, claiming delays in completing the line’s civil Construction.

There has been an increase in tendering activity since the new state government took power, which is very impressive. However, MMRDA will re-invite bids for the line’s rolling stock only after construction work begins on the depot.
