HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): N.V.S. Reddy, the Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML), inspected a 10 km stretch in order to adjust the alignment for the proposed Airport Metro on 29th January. Additionally, he looked into various options for the best station placement along the route between Narsingi underpass (My Home Avatar junction) and Rajendranagar hillock.

Reddy instructed the officials to draw up the Airport Metro alignment in such a way that the acquisition of private properties is either eliminated or reduced as much as possible, after walking the full 10 km with the senior engineers and going over every facet of the alignment.

He added that they should take advantage of the road underpasses of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) by locating the Airport Metro stations closer to them in order to make it more convenient for people from the various colonies and roads that are expanding.

Reddy instructed the engineers to plot the Metro viaduct without any curves or gradients at certain points in order to construct a couple of more stations to serve the burgeoning commercial and residential buildings in the area.

He also emphasized that the Airport Metro be a success from the opening day by incorporating skywalks and other pedestrian facilities into the station planning.

On December 9, 2022, the foundation stone for the Airport Metro was placed, initiating the 31-kilometer long endeavor connecting Hitec City, the information technology hub, to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. The state government is responsible for the expenditure of Rs 6,250 crore for the construction of this project.

There is a provision to erect 13 rapid rails in the yard of Duhai Depot. For this reason, only 13 trains will be run in the first section. While arrangements have been made to erect 17 rapids in the under-construction yard at Modipuram in Meerut, the construction is going on quickly. Overhead U-Girder to Inaugurates at Bellandur Metro Station in Bengaluru

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bengaluru Metro will make history as the first full overhead U-girder will be inaugurated close to the Bellandur Metro station on the Outer Ring Road Line. This girder, measuring 28 metres in length, is constructed in a yard in Gunjur.

A Metro official has stated that, rather than using cranes as in all past Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) projects, a launcher will be implemented to lift the girder above the work site and launch it along the Silk Board-KR Puram Line. This lift will take place every 3 or 4 km, and the girder is a crucial aspect of civil infrastructure since it supports the viaduct upon which the rails will be placed.

The official stated that the contractor AFCONS had prepared the U-girder, which weighed 160 tonnes, with Metro supervision. Working this way was much faster, as it only took them one day instead of the seven days the traditional approach of casting segments and then connecting them to form a girder required. Two U-girders were put in every span, and 13 spans have been completed so far, with the segments being joined together to make one unit at the site. The line will have 330 spans in total, the official added.

To ensure the completion of work between K R Puram and Baiyapanahalli Metro station on the Reach-1 Extension line, which is anticipated to be partially launched in March, the Senior Divisional Operations Manager of Bengaluru Railway Division has granted permission to BMRCL to execute tasks concerning the launch of its open web girder between the Carmelaram and Baiyappanahalli Metro stations. This line and power block will span a week, commencing on January 29, and will last for 22 hours.

BMRCL had planned to erect a 65m open web girder above the railway tracks; however, because the required preparatory work was not finished, they could not do so during the Line Block period from December 8 to 31, which had been initially approved by the railways.

CMRS to Conduct Inspection of Kolkata Metro’s New Garia-Ruby Stretch From January 30

KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): The 5.4-kilometre New Garia-Ruby portion of the New Garia-Ruby stretch of the New Garia-Airport Metro Corridor will undergo a safety examination on January 30, 2023, according to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).

The new Garia-Ruby segment underwent a three-round trial run with the help of the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Kolkata Metro Railway, with the medha rake reaching a top speed of 83 kmph.

The CRS inspection of our sector is now ready. In under seven minutes, the train completed the five stations, according to a senior official, RVNL.

A letter was released on the inauguration of a new permanent broad gauge line of 5.4 km (electrified) from Kavi Subhas to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stations for public passenger transportation following a meeting between the commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Kolkata Metro Railway, and RVNL.

The 32km Airport-New Garia line’s shortened new Garia-Ruby portion will operate on a one-train system with no signals, similar to the Joka-Taratala metro route. However, due to the delay in activating the sophisticated communication-based train control system (CBTC) signalling system, only one rake will move up and down the track.

A non-AC rake leased from the Noapara carshed of the North-South line was used for the reduced section’s first train experiment. There were some problems at that time since the tracks weren’t clear, and the train had to stop a few times to pass through the five stops, on September 24, 2023.

However, the rake testing for passenger services went quite smoothly, and we feel entirely ready for the CRS inspection, a Metro Railway official said.

There is yet to be another operational carshed nearby. Thus the rake had to be transferred from the Noapara carshed for the Joka-Taratala trials in pieces (two coaches for each voyage). A working terminal may be seen adjacent to the brand-new Kavi Subhas terminal. “We just had to remove the buffer between two depots and install 180 metres of connecting tracks”, a senior RVNL official said.

First U-Girder Launched in elevated section of Patna Metro Project

PATNA (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) on Republic Day achieved a significant milestone in its Priority Corridor work by erecting the project’s first-ever U-Girder between two pillars/piers near Bhoothnath Station on a prestigious morning.

U-Girders are precast and pre-tensioned structures on which rail tracks can be placed as per the timeline. Therefore, it will further expedite the project and will help in the timely completion of the project.

The precast structure will save time in construction while ensuring better quality. After casting these structures at the casting yard, they are brought to the site and launched with the help of high-capacity cranes or launchers.

The erection of the first U-Girder is crucial as it needs to clear all the initial testing before it’s placed. Three hundred eight such U-girders will be erected in priority corridors while each structure weighs around 160 tonnes.

The priority corridor where the Girders will be launched is 7.4km from Malahi Pakri to Patliputra Bus Terminal.

The completion and successful launching of this superstructure is a milestone for Patna Metro Project. The elevated section of the priority corridor will have five stations, namely, Malahi Pakri, Khemni Chak, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and Patliputra Bus Terminal.

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): JMC Projects put up the first 27.90m U-Girder in Kidwai Nagar for Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project’s Package KNPCC-07 linking Transport Nagar Ramp to Naubasta Station on 20th January.

The accomplishment of constructing the second and last 5.427 km elevated stretch of Line-1, spanning 23.785 km, was documented with a 164-tonne girder placed between Pier 56 and 57. The initial pier cap was set up at Pier 56 just before the end of 2021.

In June 2022, the Rs. 514.61 crore civil construction contract of this section was handed over to JMC Projects by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). The section is located on the eastern end of Line-1 and incorporates five elevated stations at Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar and Naubasta.

JMC achieved this remarkable feat of marking this milestone within seven months of the contract being awarded, setting a new benchmark for metro projects in India. By comparison, Afcons Infrastructure, given the contract in September 2019, completed the same feat in August 2020, requiring eleven months. Whilst the Covid-19 pandemic could have played a part, JMC’s success is still remarkable.
