INDORE (Metro Rail News): DBL workers swiftly launched four 36m steel composite girders for the Indore Metro’s Yellow Line within a 3-hour. 

Timing

The operation, executed early on a Saturday morning between piers P11-P12 near the ISBT Metro Station, marked a significant milestone for the Phase 1 project. This line, covering 33.53 km and linking key areas like Palasia and the Airport, is vital for Indore’s connectivity.

Efficient Deployment Over Western Railways’ Tracks

Launching works over two tracks began at 12:15 am and concluded around 2 am within the allocated railway block. DBL’s precision in execution highlights its dedication to delivering infrastructure projects promptly and efficiently.

The Contract 

Dilip Buildcon won the first contract for the Indore Metro in October 2018, worth Rs. 228.96 crore. They were supposed to build a 5.29 km viaduct between the ISBT/MR10 Flyover and Mumtaj Bag Colony within 27 months. However, it’s been 65 months, the project has been unfinished.

Indore Metro

Indore Metro is a Mass Rapid Transit System being built by MPMRCL. Phase 01 of the Indore metro is being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 7500 Crores. The metro trains will run 80 km/hr across the 31.5 Km line in Indore with 29 stations.

CMRL Reinvites Bids for Chennai Metro Phase 2’s 96 Coach Contract

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has invited bids for procuring 32 new train sets for the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project under package ARE04A.

Package ARE04A 

It entails 2.9 m wide coaches to be operated on standard gauge tracks. These will be less wider than Chennai Metro’s earlier rolling stock. These would be in DMC+TC+DMC, where DMC = Driving Motor Car and TC = Trailer Car.

Specifications of the Tender 

The specifications of the tender are: 

Estimate: N/A

Contract Period: 1300 days + 730 days (DNP) + 15 Years (CMC)

Pre-Bid Meeting: March 15, 2024 at 11 am

Bid Submission Deadline: May 15, 2024 at 3 PM

Technical Bid Opening: May 16, 2024 at 3 PM

Scope of the Contract 

The contract scope entails designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, commissioning, and training Personnel and a Comprehensive Maintenance Contract for Fifteen (15) years of Standard Gauge Metro Rolling Stock (Electric Multiple Units). 

Lines remain Undisclosed 

These trains have not been assigned to any specific line or corridor within the project. They will be stored at depots located in Madhavaram (for lines 3 & 5), Semmancheri (for Line-3), or Poonamalee (for Line-4).

Delivery timeline 

The winning party must produce, conduct trials, and transport the initial 3-coach prototype train within 630 days (equivalent to 1.7 years) from the ‘Commencement Date’ specified in the contract. Subsequently, the following six trains must be completed within 840 days, the next six within 900 days, the next six within 960 days, the next six within 1020 days, and the final seven within 1090 days (equivalent to 3 years) from the ‘Commencement Date’.

Chennai Metro, Phase 02 

Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Project pitches for a 118.9 km Network consisting of 3 corridors, namely: 

  1. Corridor 3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km)
  2. Corridor 4: Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km)
  3. Corridor 5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km)

UPMRC Unveils the Bidders for Agra Metro’s AGCC-07 Package

AGRA (Metro Rail News): Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has unveiled the names of the bidders who have submitted their bids for its AGCC-07 Package. 

AGCC-07 

It entails the construction of the entire lines viaduct, 14 elevated stations, and two other viaducts: 

  1. 530m viaduct to Line-2’s Kalindi Vihar Depot
  2. 2.61 km viaduct from north of Sadar Bazar metro station to Line-1’s PAC Depot

The Tender

Bids for the AGCC-07’s construction were awarded in December 2023 with a Rs. 1529.29 crore estimate and a tight 24-month deadline by the UPMRC. 

Bidders 

The bidders for the tender are: 

  1. Afcons Infrastrucure Ltd. (AIL)
  2. Ceigall India Ltd. (CIL)
  3. DBL – Evrascon JV
  4. Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (L&T)

Scope of the Contract 

The scope of the contract ranges from the design and construction of the Main Line Elevated Viaduct from Agra Cantt to Metro Station to Kalindi Vihar Metro Station, including Viaduct Connection with Ramp from Sadar Bazar Metro Station to existing Corridor-1 Depot at PAC ground & Corridor-2 Depot Entry/Exit lines Viaduct with Ramp and 14 nos. of Elevated Stations i.e., Agra Cantt, Sadar Bazar, Pratap Pura, Collectorate, Agra College, Hariparvat Chauraha, Sanjay Place, M.G. Road, Sultanganj crossing, Kamla Nagar, Ram Bagh, Foundry Nagar, Agra Mandi & Kalindi Vihar metro stations to  Civil, Associated Ancillary Structures, Architectural Finishes, Water Supply, Sanitary Installation, Drainage, External Development, Fire Fighting, Fire Detection, E&M works and PEB structures in Corridor-2 of Agra Metro at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Further Development 

The bids would further be sent for technical evaluation, filtering the name of the lowest bidder.  

2nd longest Civil Package 

It is the 2nd longest civil package in India’s metro history after Mumbai Metro Line-12’s 22.17 km long Package CA-240, which Gawar Constructions won in February 2024.

Latest Update on Agra Metro 

As of the latest reports, The 6km-long priority corridor, consisting of three elevated and three underground stations, is expected to be completed by the end of February. The priority corridor of the Agra metro is 6 km long and runs from the Taj Mahal east gate to the Jama Masjid. 

“The operations of the metro on the priority corridor will begin in the first half of March. The civil work on the three km-long elevated section is complete, with the finishing work in the advanced stage. The underground section is also being executed quic,kly and TBMs (tunnel boring machines) ‘Ganga’ and ‘Yamuna’ are constructing the tunnel for the underground section,” Panchanan Mishra, the spokesperson of UPMRC, said. 

Agra Metro 

Agra metro is a Rapid Transit Metro Project in Agra consisting of 2 metro lines totalling 29.65 Kilometers. The Agra Metro has two corridors: 

Corridor 01

The length of the Sikandra to Taj East Gate corridor is 14.00 km, which is partly elevated and partly underground and comprises 13 stations (6 elevated and seven underground).

Corridor 02

The length of the Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar corridor is 15.40 km, comprising 14 elevated stations.

Commercial operations on the Priority Corridor running from the Taj Mahal Esttae to the Taj Mahal Ramp are scheduled to begin in February 2024 ahead of the initial August 2024 deadline.

Operations to be Suspended on Ghaziabad RRTS for This Weekend

GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is in the final stages of commissioning the 17 km long RRTS stretch from  Duhai to Modinagar (North). 

Operations at halt 

Operations on the 17km priority section running between Sahibabad & Duhai will remain suspended to accelerate the integration work. 

Covering stations 

On Thursday, the NCRTC announced that work on the Meerut (south) station is still pending, potentially delaying its inclusion in the upcoming section slated for opening. The NCRTC concentrates on a 17km stretch, excluding the Meerut (south) station.

Safety Inspections 

The safety inspections are currently undergoing, with the agency planning to invite the Team for CMRS inspection by the next week for final safety clearances & approval. 

Delhi-Meerut RRTS 

Per the MoS statement, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS has incurred an expenditure of Rs 18,160.81 crore, nearly 59.9% of the total fund allocated for the Corridor. 

The Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) is a comprehensive mass rapid transit network spanning 82.15 kilometres, linking Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan with Ghaziabad and Meerut. The construction of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is currently in progress, with a total expenditure of nearly Rs 30,000 crore. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the initial phase of the priority corridor, covering 17 kilometres and featuring five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.

On October 20th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched India’s first RAPIDX train, Namo Bharat, off Sahibabad Station. These trains are engineered to reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, offering ticket prices ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 50 for standard coaches and Rs 50 to Rs 100 for premium coaches.

The RRTS initiative encompasses semi-high-speed rail corridors connecting Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Alwar in Rajasthan, and Panipat in Haryana.

PM Modi to Inaugurate Ruby Hall to Ramawadi Stretch of the Pune Metro Next Week

PUNE (Metro Rail News): PM Modi will likely inaugurate the Ruby Hall to Ramawadi stretch of the Pune metro in the next week before the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) kicks in.

CMRS Nod 

Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch of the Pune metro received the safety nod from the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) in the 2nd last week of February. 

Yerawada Metro

The metro station at Yerwada will remain inactive or shut down for public use due to the problem with the entry/exit gates. While one entrance near the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Yerawada Kalas Dhanori ward office is ready, work on the other entry-exit point was halted last November due to allegations of traffic congestion caused by the staircase on Ahmednagar Road. Work has recently resumed but will take nearly a month to complete. 

Positive Development 

This development signifies a significant milestone in the progression of the city’s ambitious Aqua Line, bringing it closer to becoming operational. Completing the 15.7 km Aqua Line promises to substantially enhance residents’ daily lives.

Introduction of Four New Stations

The upcoming stretch will bring forth four new stations along the route, namely:

1. Bund Garden

2. Yerawada

3. Kalyaninagar

4. Ramwadi

This expansion aims to facilitate smooth and trouble-free commuting from the city’s central area, particularly addressing the challenges faced by commuters heading to the airport.

Pune Metro

The Pune metro, comprising three lines totalling 54.14 km, serves as a rapid transit system for the city. Currently, two lines are operational:

1. Purple Line: Connects PCMC Bhavan to Swargate.

2. Aqua Line: Runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi.

3. Line 3: Extends from Hinjawadi to Civil Court via Balewadi.

BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Bangalore Metro has invited bids to study the feasibility study of extending the metro from northern Bengaluru’s Madavara to Tumakuru, a distance of 52.41 km, under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Announcement 

The concerned corridor was announced by the CM of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, in the state budget for 2024-25. 

Reason behind Going Inter-City 

Initially, the plan was to extend the green line until Kunigal Cross, beginning from Madavara, a total distance of 11 km(s). However, Home Minister G Parameshwara has been keen to take the metro to his hometown of Tukamuru. He has proposed building the metro along the NH-48. 

Scope of Survey 

It would include estimated construction costs, traffic surveys, the alignment of the metro lines, properties needed to be acquired, potential hurdles in land acquisition, and so on. It should be ready in the upcoming 2-3 months.

Alternatives in Scope 

The government may opt for a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to connect the two cities, akin to the semi-high-speed railway line established between Delhi and Meerut. As part of this initiative, metro stations would be strategically positioned at greater intervals to minimise travel duration.

Godrej Declared as Lowest Bidder For Mumbai Metro Line 4’s Contract worth INR 251 Crores

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Godrej & Boyce has been declared the lowest Bidder for Mumbai metro Line 4’s Station Finishing & PEB contract.

Scope of the Contract 

The scope of the contract ranges from  Architectural Finishing to plumbing Works, including interior fit-outs, façade etc., along with Part Design, Fabrication, Supply and Erection of Pre-Engineered Structure including Entry-Exit Structures for 07 elevated stations viz Garodia Nagar, Pant Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Shreyas Cinema, Godrej Company, Vikhroli Metro & Surya Nagar of Line-4 of Mumbai Metro. 

The Tender 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) invited bids for their architectural finishing contract in October 2023 with an estimated budget of Rs. 200.83 crore and a deadline of 20 months. In January, the technical bids were opened, revealing three bidders who submitted proposals for the project.

Financial Bids Received 

The financial bids received for the tender are:

Mumbai Metro Line 4

The Mumbai Metro’s Green Line, designated as Line 4, remains an incomplete rapid transit project in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Envisaged as a fully elevated route spanning 32.32 kilometres (20.08 miles), it is slated to encompass 32 stations linking Wadala in Mumbai to Kasarvadavali on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, passing through Chembur, Bhandup Mulund, and Teen Hath Naka, a prominent intersection in Thane known for heavy traffic. The project is estimated to require an investment of ₹14,549 crore.

GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): The first Meerut Metro trainset arrived at the NCRTC Depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad at midnight of February 27, 2024. Consisting of three cars, the trainset was transported on large trailers and has been unloaded for further assembly and testing.

Recently, the first look of the Meerut Metro trainset was unveiled by Shri Vinay Kumar Singh, MD, NCRTC. Subsequently, Alstom has handed over the first trainset to NCRTC at Savli, Gujarat. With this unveiling and the commencement of the delivery of Meerut Metro trainsets, this marks the arrival of the first trainsets at the NCRTC Depot in Duhai.

The Make in India, Meerut Metro trainsets, with modern design, is energy efficient, lightweight, and equipped with regenerative braking system, compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operations (ATO). The Metro train has a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph.

Meerut Metro aims to provide a safe, fast, and modern transportation solution for the residents of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. With the arrival of Meerut Metro trainset, the trial runs of Meerut Metro will be started soon. The Meerut Metro corridor spans a length of 23 km with 13 stations. Construction of the Meerut Metro is progressing rapidly, and all stations are taking shape.

This is the first time in the country that both Namo Bharat trains and Meerut metro will run on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS infrastructure. To enable this operation, NCRTC has implemented European Train Control system (ETCS) Level 2 signalling with Hybrid Level 3 over Long Term Evolution (LTE), marking a pioneering endeavour in global rail transportation. It seamlessly integrates the RRTS and metro services within Meerut, allowing for closer headways and increased service frequency.

Features of the Meerut Metro Trainsets

Meerut Metro design encapsulates a modern aesthetic approach, prioritizing optimized passenger comfort, safety, and security. The trains are air-conditioned, featuring comfortable seating, luggage racks, grab handles, USB device charging facility, and many other new-age facilities required for the convenience of modern-day commuters.

  • The Meerut Metro will comprise of three (3) Car Train sets. It will have ergonomically designed 2×2 transverse as well as longitudinal seating arrangement. More than 700 passengers can travel in a train.
  • State-of-the-art Modern Light Weight, Stainless steel coaches.
  • Comfortable standing space, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, mobile charging facility, dynamic route maps, infotainment system, illumination-based auto control ambient lighting system and other amenities.
  • Total adherence to safety by synchronizing Metro operation with Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at all stations ensuring better crowd management.
  • Selective door opening via push buttons to reduce energy consumption, and safety measures like emergency egress devices, fire extinguishers, alarms, and talk-back systems are integrated.
  • Provision of space to carry medical stretcher in case of emergencies, space for wheel chair.

MMRDA Invites Bid for Mumbai Metro Line 5’s Rolling Stock & Signaling Contract CA-241

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Following the recent re-invitation of bids for Line-4’s systems, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has now initiated bids for supplying critical systems for Mumbai Metro’s 24.90 km Line-5 (Orange Line) under Package CA-241.

The tender notice for Line-5’s crucial systems includes the provision of rolling stock (22 trains, each comprising 6 coaches, totaling 132 coaches), CBTC signaling & train control (S&TC), telecommunication, platform screen doors (PSDs), and depot machinery & plant (M&P) at Kasheli Depot.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) intends to finance the design and build aspect of this contract, spanning 50 weeks (approximately 1 year), through a proposed USD 186.57 million loan. MMRDA will fund the comprehensive maintenance component for a period of 17 years, inclusive of a 2-year Defects Liability Maintenance Period (DLP).

MMRDA’s Scope: The project entails the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of Rolling Stock, Communication Based Signaling & Train Control, Telecommunication, Platform Screen Doors Systems, and Depot Machinery & Plant for Line 5 (Phase 1 – Kapurbawadi – Kasheli – Dhamankar Naka & Phase 2 – Dhamankar Naka – Bhiwandi – Kalyan APMC) of the Mumbai Metro Rail Project, including 15 Years of Comprehensive Maintenance After 2 Years of Defect Liability Maintenance Period.

According to the tender schedule, the delivery timeline for Line-5’s Phase 1 prototype train requires the first prototype train to be delivered at week 56 (1.1 year) after contract signing, followed by the next 2 trains at week 78, and the subsequent 9 trains at week 96.

For Line-5’s Phase 2, where construction is pending, the first two trains must be delivered at week 180, and the following 8 trains at week 196 (approximately 3.75 years) from contract signing.

While uncertainties regarding the technical bid opening persist, the anticipation is for financial bids to be opened in Q4 (October – December), with subsequent contract signing contingent upon bid placement. This marks a significant milestone as MMRDA advances its rolling stock procurement process for all under-construction lines, including Line-4 (Green Line) and Line-6 (Pink Line).

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): Alstom unveiled the Low Emission Access to Public Transport (LEAP) program, an initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility endeavor. LEAP aims to bolster last-mile connectivity and promote greater usage of public transport. As part of the program’s pilot phase, electric autorickshaws provided by MetroRide will operate as last-mile services from Yelachenahalli and Indiranagar stations of the Namma Metro in Bengaluru. MetroRide, a startup mentored under Alstom’s Sustainability Incubation Program, has trained approximately 25 women drivers to operate the electric rickshaws in the region. Commuters can conveniently book rides through the MetroRide app.

The program’s inauguration witnessed the presence of Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, Mr. Srinivas Alavilli from WRI India, Mr. Rajeev Gowda, Vice Chairman of the State Institute for the Transformation of Karnataka, and Smt. Kalpana Kataria, Executive Director (Connectivity & Asset Management) of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

Olivier Loison highlighted the pivotal role of Namma Metro in alleviating Bengaluru’s traffic challenges and emphasized LEAP as a significant step towards promoting public transport. Through collaboration with WRI India and leveraging the innovations brought forth by MetroRide, Alstom aims to address the last-mile connectivity issue effectively. The program seeks to enhance the metro experience, making it more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

Bengaluru, known for its congested roads and high private car usage, faces a significant last-mile connectivity challenge, particularly for metro commuters. LEAP aims to bridge this gap by improving access to Bengaluru Metro, especially for women, and fostering women’s participation in the transport workforce. WRI India’s collaboration underscores a commitment to data-driven decision-making in public transport, aiming to provide safe, low-cost, and low-emission transport options while contributing to sustainable livelihoods.

Alstom’s partnership with NRSCEL, IIM Bangalore’s incubation center for startups, reflects its dedication to combatting climate change and addressing sustainability and mobility challenges.
