NCRTC Signs MoU with DMRC for Integrated QR-Ticketing

0
NCRTC

Delhi (Metro Rail News): National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate their ticketing systems, offering seamless travel for residents across Delhi-NCR. This collaboration supports the ‘One India – One Ticket’ initiative, allowing passengers to book QR code tickets for both Namo Bharat and Delhi Metro services on a single platform. The MoU was signed today in the presence of Shri Shalabh Goel, Managing Director, NCRTC, and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC.

NCRTC DMRC MoU 2

•     Passengers booking a Namo Bharat train ticket via the RRTS Connect App can simultaneously book a Delhi Metro ticket.

•     Similarly, passengers booking a Delhi Metro ticket through the DMRC Mobile App can also add a Namo Bharat train ticket.

•     The integration of DMRC and NCRTC ticketing systems will enable the generation of a unique Delhi Metro QR code on the NCRTC Mobile App, and similarly, a Namo Bharat QR code on the DMRC Mobile App.

With this integration, customers booking a Namo Bharat train ticket through the RRTS Connect App can simultaneously purchase a Delhi Metro ticket. Similarly, passengers using the DMRC Mobile App to book a metro ticket can also add a Namo Bharat train ticket. This collaboration will generate unique Delhi Metro QR codes on the RRTS Connect App and Namo Bharat QR codes on the DMRC Mobile App, significantly enhancing the passenger experience.

This joint initiative between NCRTC and DMRC aims to provide a comprehensive travel solution, improving customer convenience and promoting efficient transportation across the Delhi-NCR region. The integration is expected to reduce queues at both NCRTC and DMRC stations, save passengers valuable time, and encourage digital transactions and environmentally friendly travel options.

This initiative is in line with the PM National Gati Shakti Master Plan, which envisages seamless integration between different transport modes. RRTS stations are strategically located nearby and integrated with the existing railway stations, metro stations, and bus depots, creating an extensive network of networks. By eliminating the need to switch between different ticketing apps when transitioning between NCRTC and DMRC networks, this initiative further promotes rail-based green transportation for travel within Delhi-NCR.

The currently operational 42 km RRTS corridor is seamlessly connected to the 393 km DMRC network, providing commuters with a unified and efficient ticketing and travel experience across the NCR. This integration encourages the use of public transportation, which is crucial for increasing ridership and ensuring the long-term sustainability of these capital-intensive projects.

This initiative follows the recent similar tie-up between NCRTC & IRCTC for booking Namo Bharat train tickets on the IRCTC Platform.  The Namo Bharat trains, with a design speed of 180 km/h and an operational speed of up to 160 km/h, significantly reduce travel time within the region by up to one-third. Once the entire 82 km corridor is completed by the targeted deadline of 2025, passengers will be able to travel between Delhi and Meerut in under an hour.

Railways Cancels  ₹30,000 crore Order of 100 Vande Bharat Trains

PM Modi to Inaugurate Nine New Vande Bharat Express Trains This Sunday (For representation Purpose Only)

New Delhi (Metro Rail News):The Vande Bharat project has encountered a major setback as the Indian Railways has scrapped a tender worth ₹30,000 crore that had been awarded to the French engineering company Alstom. The tender was intended for the manufacturing and maintenance of 100 aluminum-bodied Vande Bharat train sets over the next 35 years.

The tender panel expressed concerns about the abruptness of the company’s initial offer, leading Indian Railways to initiate negotiations to lower the proposed amount to ₹140 crore per train set. In response, the company requested that the final settlement be made at ₹145 crore per train set.

About the tender

  • Alstom was appointed for the manufacturing and maintenance of 100 Aluminium -bodied Vande Bharat train sets for the upcoming 35 years.
  • The bids were invited in June 2022 and were opened in February 2023. Subsequently the tender was awarded to Alstom.
  • Alstom India and a consortium of Swiss Company Stadler Rail and Hyderabad-based Medha Servo Drives were the only bidders that were successful in submitting the bid.
  • Alstom proposed ₹150.9 crore per train while on the other hand Medha proposed ₹169 crore per train.

Sudhanshu Mani’s point of view

Sudhanshu Mani, former General Manager of Integral Coach Factory and creator of the Vande Bharat train expressed his grief by stating that this is the second unsuccessful attempt of employing a manufacturer for aluminium body trains.

“The first attempt was made in 2017-18 when ICF floated a Train20 tender for manufacturing 20 such Vande Bharat train sets. But it did not materialise,” Mr. Mani said as reported by The Hindu.

If the tender had been successful, Alstom would have collaborated with Indian firms to establish a facility for producing the extrusions and profiles necessary for constructing the train bodies. Mr. Mani said that such a substantial tender would have incentivised companies to invest in this plant. As major components became locally manufactured, this move would have ultimately reduced the cost of producing aluminum train.

Mr. Mani said by cancelling this tender, “we are putting the project to manufacture aluminium-bodied trains back by several years”. “It is a retrograde step. The Indian Railways should have negotiated further and settled at a price,” he mentioned.

Vande Bharat Trains:

Vande Bharat express is a semi high speed  with maximum operational speed of 160 km per hour. The main objective of  Vande Bharat is to improve connectivity and reduce travel time for passengers between major cities. Most importantly the energy consumption of Vande Bharat is comparatively less than those local trains which will benefit the environment.
