KPIL Becomes L1 for Third Rail Traction Contract of Kochi Metro Phase 2

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Kochi Metro Rail Corporation (KMRL) has announced Kalpataru Projects International Ltd as the lowest bidder for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the Third Rail Traction Electrification System and related works for Phase 2 of the Kochi Metro project.

KMRL invited bids for this contract with a 730 days deadline. Technical bids were opened on 31 Oct 2025 announcing that 3 firms have submitted bids for this contract. Technical evaluation of the submitted bids took place on 27 Jan 2026. Subsequently, Financial bids were opened and after a financial evaluation round Kalpataru Projects International was declared as the lowest bidder for the contract.

Contract Duration: 730 Days 

Contract Scope of Work: Design verification, detail engineering, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 750 V DC third rail traction system electrification and Auxiliary Sub Stations (ASS) and Associated Scada Systems for Phase 2 of KMRL Project.

The Phase 2 of Kochi Metro is currently under construction and consists of one metro corridor (Pink Line) which spans 11.2 km from JLN Stadium to Infopark covering 11 stations.
