PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its nod to the expansion of the Pune Metro Rail Project under Phase 2. The approved project includes the construction of Line 4 and an associated Spur Line 4A.

The approved Line 4 spans 25.52 km connecting Kharadi to Khadakwasla via Hadapsar and Swargate through 22 elevated stations. Spur Line 4A will cover an additional 6.12 kilometres between Nal Stop and Warje-Manik Baug, featuring six elevated stations. Collectively, the two corridors will extend 31.64 kilometres and comprise 28 stations.

Funding for the project will be collaboratively provided by the Government of India, the Maharashtra state government, and various bilateral and multilateral funding agencies. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) will oversee the entire implementation, including all civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems-related work.

The sanctioned project carries an estimated cost of INR 9,857.85 crore (approximately USD 1.1 billion) and has a planned construction timeline of five years following approval.

This expansion will link the eastern, central, and western zones of Pune, integrating key residential and commercial hubs. It aims to offer commuters more reliable travel options while enhancing connectivity across the city’s primary growth corridors.
