Maha Metro | Pune Metro project to get funding of Euro 845mn by March 2018

0
Pune: Funding for the Pune Metro Rail project is expected to be finalised by March 2018. The project is to be co-funded by European Investment Bank and  French development bank, AfD and they will together be providing €845 million for the project, Brijesh Dixit, MD, Maha Metro, said. The EIB team will visit in December-end to study the project. EIB will be putting in €600 million while AfD would be financing €245 million, Dixit said. This funding will account for around 58% of the Rs 11,420-crore cost of the 31.25-km Pune Metro project with the remaining coming in the form of equity from the Central government, Maharashtra state government and the civic bodies of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, Dixit said.
The 50:50 central and state government-owned joint venture, the Pune Metro project has the advantage of being backed by sovereign guarantee of the government of India which enables it to access funds at a lower interest rates and with better terms and conditions which reduce cost and improve financial viability as well and reasonable fares, Dixit said.  “We do not need the money now but will need it later, so we hope to finalise the agreement by end of March 2018,” Dixit said.

An MoU will be signed with Indian Rail soon, Dixit said. A similar MoU will be signed with the state and city transport undertakings so that the Metro could be integrated by linking with existing public transport provided by Indian Rail, MSRTC, PMPML and BRTS to achieve seamless travel experience.
They have also received proposals for dockless bikes to enable Metro users to pick up and drop cycles for last-mile connectivity.
Pune Metro’s Civil Court station, which is interchange station for both the routes of PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi as well also connects with the third line of Pune Metro, is being executed by the PMRDA. Tendering for the project has been completed for two stretches and some of the railway stations. Pune Metro has also got possession of around 50% of the government  it needs for the Metro. The Metro needs 44 acres out of which it has already got 32 acres.

Mumbai Metro | 30-35% transplanted trees nearly dead in Mumbai Metro 3 project

0

Mumbai: The inspection report submitted before the two-judge committee on Mumbai Metro 3, which was appointed by the Bombay High Court, said 30-35% of the transplanted trees are nearly dead, and that there are still 839 trees to be transplanted.

The report prepared by a junior committee consisting of two officers of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, pointed out that 2,439 trees should have been planted till date, but not even a few hundred trees have been planted.

The petitioners have contended that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is taking proper care to prevent unnecessary hacking of trees, but the authorities are not taking enough care to transplant them as only 65-70% trees have shown sprouting of leaves.

R. Gavai directed the MMRCL to give a detailed plan on where they propose to plant/transplant trees.

The judges also asked the petitioners to give details of other spaces where trees could be planted.

The judges directed the junior committee to revisit two sample stations to investigate the grievances.

They also told the committee to consider planting trees on the High Court premises and the Marine Drive.

They asked the authorities to consider whether the Gujarat/Singapore/Hong Kong transplantation models could be replicated.

Maha Metro | Pune Metro project to interlink four Indian Railways stations

0

Pune: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has decided to interlink various railway stations, including Pune, Shivajinagar, Khadki and Kasarwadi, with metro stations as it will help commuters to switch over from one mode of transport to another on the same platform. According to officials, Maha-Metro has planned to connect metro stations directly to railway platforms.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Maha-Metro managing director Brijesh Dixit said that the company is working on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway, mainly Central Railways, for interlinking stations of both Pune Metro and railways at four points.

The Pune Metro’s rail route Pimpri–Chinchwad to Swargate will connect Kasarwadi, Khadki and Shivajinagar railway stations and the Vanaz to Ramwadi metro route will connect with the Pune station.

“The Shivajinagar Metro station has been planned underground. Hence, Maha-Metro will erect a subway to connect to the Shivajinagar Metro route. Commuters would need to go one floor below to catch the metro from Shivajinagar railway station. Other metro stations will be at the level of foot overbridges,” Dixit said.

According to Dixit, Maha-Metro is planning the Shivajinagar Metro station near state transport bus stand which will help to connect with the Shivajinagar bus stand, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus stop and Shivajinagar railway station. Commuters from other stations will directly come to the metro station.

The underground metro will run from Range Hills to Swargate and its first station is Shivajinagar and next is civil court.

The Maha-Metro head said that they have completed primary discussion with the Indian Railway. Both the agencies would bear the cost of connecting the stations. As both the Indian Railways and Metro are helping each other and getting more commuters, agencies will share the cost equally.

It is planned that commuters would get tickets at both railway and metro platforms. Railways would open their ticket window at metro stations’ entry point and later commuters can get both metro as well as railway ticket.

Lucknow: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) today started the work of track laying in the underground Metro section between Sachivalaya & Hazratganj. The track laying commenced after performing ceremonial ‘puja’ at the Sachivalaya underground Metro station site by Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Lucknow Metro.

Pooja ceremony by LMRC Chief Kumar Keshav before begining the work

The first track will be laid from Sachivalaya to Hazratganj inside the tunnel. LMRC is using the Mass Spring System (an Elastomer pad of 25mm thickness) below the track bed for construction of track. Mass Spring System, procured from Austria, eliminates the problem of vibration and sound in adjoining structures of the underground portion.

For the construction of track, first of all Elastomer Mass Spring System sheet is laid, then reinforcement mesh is laid over this and then it is filled with concrete up to the rail bottom. Rails are wielded continuously to avoid any joint in the rails.

Lucknow Metro has started the track work one month earlier than the scheduled planning keeping in view the overall project completion. Track laying between Sachivalaya and Hazratganj will be completed by next month.

The rails have been are procured from Japan and its fittings are procured from Germany. The track laying work is being done by M/s Kalindee Rail Nirman which was also doing the track laying work on the viaduct portion of the North – South corridor.

Mumbai Metro | MMRC begins tunnelling work for Metro 3 project at Naya Nagar

1

Mumbai: Work on constructing the first-ever tunnel in Mumbai for the fully underground Metro 3 line began at the Naya Nagar site in Mahim on Friday, with two more tunnel boring machines (TBMs) lowered to dig towards Dadar.

Naya Nagar is one of the seven ‘launching shafts’ from where tunnelling operations will be conducted. The others are at Cuffe Parade, Azad Maidan, Worli, Kalina, Sahar Road and Marol Naka. Azad Maidan is the next site where tunnelling work will start, said Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

“This phase of tunnelling will be completed by 2019,” said Ms. Bhide.

In all, 17 TBMs will be deployed to construct the two 33.5-km long tunnels. Five TBMs have arrived in the city, one of which is still at the Mumbai port. Of the rest, three have been lowered into the launching shaft and one has started tunnelling. “By November-end, all five machines will be operational,” Ms. Bhide said. The first boring machine was lowered in September, and needed around 45 days to be assembled.

Seven machines, whose factory acceptance test has been completed, are in various stages of transit. The factory acceptance for the remaining five will be done in the next two months. “By March 2018, every site will have at least one machine at work,” she said.

Tunnelling operations will be carried out 25-30 metres underground using an Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) device. “Mumbai sits on hard basalt rock, which is not mixed with soil. While this provides a certain degree of safety while tunnelling, it also increases the time required for the work,” Ms. Bhide said. Each machine’s speed will be between eight and 14 metres per day. “One can expect a daily average of approximately 11 metres of tunnelling,” she said.

Ms. Bhide said that Mumbai’s linear design left them with no option but to work on the main thoroughfares, which makes it more challenging to build a Metro in Mumbai as compared to other cities. The Metro stretch from Aarey Colony to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will be commissioned by June 2021, while the entire route is expected to be completed by December 2021.

Chennai: Though the second phase of the city metro rail project is still awaiting Centre’s approval, Chennai Metro Rail has begun field surveys and has initiated talks with the revenue officials in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur district to acquire lands for building the metro lines. The 108.4 km phase-2 project will connect several parts of the city suburban areas including Madhavaram and the IT corridor along Old Mahabalipuram Road.

The  Rs 44,000 crore phase-2 project will have three corridors running across the length and breadth of the city connected by 104 stations.

While the project, which will cover more than double the distance covered by the two corridors of phase-1 corridors, is awaiting approval from the Centre, CMRL has also appraised a team of officials of Japan International Cooperation Agency for funding of the project. “We are expecting to sign an agreement with JICA by March or April 2018. By that time, procurement process will also start,” said S Krishnan, principal secretary , planning, development and special initiatives, recently .

CMRL has kick started work for the second phase even as the construction of the 45km phase-1of the project is nearing completion. They began preliminary work for acquiring lands before they received approval for the phase-1 extension project that is being built to North Chennai with the rest of the city .

CMRL officials are also simultaneously holding meetings with the district revenue officials of Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur , where the metro corridors are planned for the phase, to oversee the survey and eventual acquisition of land which will include issuance of notices to land and building owners and handling documents for the actual acquisition. “We are waiting for the detailed project report to be approved to start land acquisition process,” said an official with the district administration.

An official said a proposal has also been sent to the state to recruit more people capable of handling the land acquisition process as they would be dealing with the acquisition of more area of land than in phase-1 before they begin the actual construction.
