Goa Metro | Centre agrees to fund for metro rail project in Goa

Panaji: The Goa Government planning to bring metro rail project in Goa. The plan was recently discussed with Hardeep Singh Puri, Union minister of state with independent charge in the ministry of housing and urban affairs. He was in the state to review various projects under the flagship scheme of the Centre, including Smart City, AMRUT, among others.

According to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, “the Union Government has assured financial assistance in case the state government decides to opt for a metro rail project in Goa.”

He further said that the state government has appointed a consultant to conduct a comprehensive study of the transport system in the state and has asked the consultant to provide solutions on the prevailing transport scenario. The consultant will study the transport system and analyse the collated data before making final recommendations to the state government.

“A comprehensive mobility plan is usually drawn up for cities, but Goa is a unique exception as the comprehensive mobility plan is being undertaken for the entire state,” an state government official said.

He further said that it would take around six months for completing the final report, but interim reports will be submitted to the government at regular intervals.

The study on the transport system is being partially funded by the Centre in line with other metro rail projects in the Country.

Nagpur Metro | Maha Metro focus on completion of second stretch of the Metro Rail Project

Nagpur: The first section of the Nagpur Metro between Mihan Depot and South Airport is ready and now Maharashra Metro Rail is concentrating on the second stretch between Hingna Depot and Subhash Nagar. Maha-metro has set the goal of completing this section in August. A Maha-metro official told TOI that the construction work on the viaduct from the Hingna depot to Subhash Nagar is 50% complete.

“The civil work will be completed by June end. Laying of tracks and erection of electric poles would be done along with viaduct construction. These two works plus installation of signalling and telecommunication systems will be over by August. The five stations on the section — Lokmanya Nagar, Bansi Nagar, Wasudeo Nagar, Rachana T-point and Subhash Nagar — will become functional by then.

Finishing would, however, go on for some more months,” he said.

After this elevated section is ready, Maha-metro will conduct a test run in this section and then invite the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) for inspection. This will be followed by a visit from the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS) and then commercial operations will begin.

Commenting on the next test, the officer said: “The railway lines in the leveling section were placed on the ballast tracks, now we will have to place it on a track without ballast, so it will be a different experience.”

The next section that will be commissioned is the southern airport of the elevated section of Sitabuldi. “We have set ourselves the goal of completing all the works for November, once Sitabuldi is connected with Mihan, we will obtain some passenger traffic,” the official said.

Moving on to the CMRS inspection for the grades section, the official said: “The security commissioner has sent a proposal to the Railways Board for the authorization of the rolling stock, when the Board issues the same, the CMRS will plan its visit” .

Mumbai Mono Rail | MMRDA Prevents Malaysian firm to bid for monorail operations

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has said that Scomi Engineering, based in Malaysia, is not eligible to bid for the operations of the monorail Chembur-Jacob Circle corridor that has been in the news since its inception in 2014 for frequent breakdowns.

The MMRDA has said that it has set certain terms and conditions that make the current operator, Scomi Engineering, ineligible to bid for Monorail operations.

According to a senior MMRDA official, “we maintained certain terms and conditions in the offer announced for the appointment of a new monorail operator, which makes Scomi Engineering ineligible to participate in the tender process. Scomi Engineering has not maintained the monorail of Mumbai satisfactorily and we are not willing to have Scomi on board for the monorail in the future. ”

The MMRDA recently submitted offers for the third time to designate a new operator since the current operator’s contract expires in February 2018, in which five companies, including Scomi Engineering, have now shown interest in managing Monorail by participating in the pre-session meeting, bidding.

The MMRDA official added: “We received a response from five companies, including Scomi Engineering, that showed interest in managing the monorail.” Scomi representatives present at the pre-bid meeting also requested to relax some conditions to be eligible for the process. We have not made a decision to relax these conditions, but we are not in the mood to have Scomi on board. ”

Four other companies that participated in the pre-bid meeting are Reliance Infrastructure, IL & FS, SMRT Corporation, based in Singapore, and another called BVQ, MMRDA officials said.

Meanwhile, an email inquiry sent to Scomi Engineering did not give any response until the time of going to the press. Text messages sent to Stanislaus Roshan Anthonysamy, Scomi’s representative in India also remained unanswered.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) the contract for the construction of a pedestrian bridge near the station has just been awarded. “It is estimated that the work will cost around R6 crore and will start soon.” But it can take between six and eight months for the job to end, “said one official.

Center asks Delhi Govt to expedite approval for rapid rail transit corridor

New Delhi: Taking note of unnecessary delay, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has asked the Delhi Government to expedite approval pertaining to the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor connecting Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut. The proposed corridor is also known as high speed rail corridor.

In a related development, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is executing the RRTS project, has allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to run Metro trains on the same high speed railway track within Meerut. This is the first time that Metro train and high speed rail will run on the same track. The high-speed rail will cover the distance from Meerut to New Delhi in around 30 minutes.

As per latest information, the pre-construction activities have been started and the construction work is expected to start from July. However, the Delhi government is yet to approve the detailed project report to this effect.

RRTS is different from Metro as it caters to passengers looking to travel relatively longer distances with fewer stops and at higher speed. RRTS is three times faster than Metro. Commuting from Delhi to Meerut and vice versa will be smoother with the Delhi government considering giving green signal to the first line of the RRTS corridor between Delhi and Meerut.

According to the minutes of the meeting accessed by this newspaper, the ministry has requested the Delhi government to provide the required approval expeditiously.

At the meeting with the National Capital Region Planning Board, the Delhi government has sought some clarification on the implications of goods and services tax and the change of alignment of the corridor.

The NCRTC is yet to give the fresh funding pattern as per GST. It has also made minor changes in the alignment of the corridor. Sources in the government said that the DPR report is likely to be placed before the Delhi Cabinet in the next 15 days.

“Once approval is obtained from the Delhi government, the DPR would be submitted to the ministry of HUA for further approval,” the sources added.

It is learnt that the UP government has appointed several committees to shift and relocate the utility services.

The total length of the corridor is 90.2 kms. There would be 17 stations. Of these, two will be in Delhi and the rest in UP. It is a new, dedicated, high speed, high capacity, comfortable commuter service connecting regional nodes in NCR.

Notably, the RRTS provides reliable, high frequency, point-to-point regi-onal travel at high speed along dedicated pathway.

Hyderabad Metro | DMRC to prepare DPR for Phase II of the metro rail project

Hyderabad: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been tasked with preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the expansion plan for Phase II of the Hyderabad metro rail project.

  1. “Following the instructions the Metro Rail Phase II expansion exercise will begin immediately, the preparatory work of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was entrusted to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC),” Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd ( HMRL). “The statement said by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao”.

The first stage of the Hyderabad subway railway project was inaugurated on November 28 last year. The first phase of 30 km of duration of the project between Miyapur and Nagole has 24 stations.

Delhi Metro | DMRC to open first section between Majlis Park & South Campus of Pink line soon

New Delhi: It is good news for Delhities that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to open 20km long section between Majlis Park and South Campus for public. This section is part of Phase-III project in Pink Line (Line-7).

Trial is going on different parts of this line from June last year which is now in the final stages. Proposal for safety clearance and inspection of this section will be sent to Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS) soon by DMRC.

With the opening of the section, Metro Train will run first time on the highest of 23.6 meters height near Dhaula Kuan. This height is equal to about seven story building. This will be the second line on which the driverless Metro will start operations.

There will be a total of 12 stations on this section namely Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place, Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI Hospital, Rajauri Garden, Mayapuri, Naraina Vihar, Delhi Cantt, and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus.

This section has four new interchanges stations viz Azadpur (Line-2), Netaji Subhash Place (Line-1), Punjabi Bagh West (Green Line) and Rajauri Garden (Line-3). The special thing is that when all the four interchange opens, they will be connected to all networks.
