In a grand ceremony the route was finally let open for public commute. With this route becoming operational, the work on Corridor One mapping 29km starting from Miyapur to LB Nagar is completed.

For Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) has created the second largest metro network in the country after Delhi. Minister for Municipal Administration K.T. Rama Rao shared this wonderful news during the inaugural ceremony.

This will also be the first corridor that is completed and made operational for public there.

On the other hand construction work is in progress for two other routes. These includes

  • Corridor Two – Jubilee Bus Station to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (Imlibun)/Falaknuma – 15 km
  • Corridor Three – Nagole to HiTec City/Raidurg – 28 km

As per the plan a total of 72km elevated metro line is constructed in three densely populated and heavy traffic locations in the capital

Last year in November Prime Minister Narendra Modi had began the opening of 30 km metro line of Nagole-Ameerpet-Miyapur. The ceremony was conducted in presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as well as others. It also enclosed parts of Corridor Three – Nagole to Ameerpet (17 km) as well as Corridor One of Miyapur to Ameerpet (13 km).

Till now around lakh passengers travel in Hyderabad Metro. With the new line becoming operational, the ridership is expected to double in coming months.

This project also is world’s largest public-private partnership. The government has given around ₹3,000 crore for land acquisition, shift utilities and widening of roads.

L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) has invested over ₹12,000 crore. The Central Government too helped via Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to the tune of ₹1,458 crore. The entire work has been carried out approximately to ₹14,132 crore.

MMRDA to procure rakes by bidding to increase monorail frequency

Mumbai Monorail
Mumbai Monorail

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA  is taking steps to increase monorail frequency. The officials plan to get rakes via bidding process. The focus is to get the Wadala-Jacob Circle route commissioned at the earliest.

This step was taken with Scomi Engineering; the Monorail operator might not be able to deliver rakes even before mid 2019. Scomi Engineering was to deliver additional four-coach trains that will help increase frequency. Now the chances are bleak as per MMRDA officials. Waiting for them would affect monorail services in the city.

MMRDA plans to use bidding process instead of waiting for the contractor. They plan to purchase rakes via bidding to speed up the process.

Additional metropolitan commissioner of MMRDA, Sanjay Khandare shared that they are working out alternative option to procure additional rakes. They do not want to wait for the contractor to deliver; instead they are exploring other options.

Very soon MMRDA will be inviting tender for purchasing the rakes as per senior MMRDA authority.

As per records, Monorail authorities have 10 four-coach trains. Out which only four are operation, the others are under repair and maintenance.

It was only in September that Monorail restarted its operation post the incident. Currently, it is operating only three trains with one being on standby for any emergency situation.

This arrangement means compromising the frequency of the services on 8.9-km route. Monorail commuters have to wait for around 15 minutes to board a train between Chembur and Wadala depot.

A senior MMRDA while speaking to Hindustan Times on the basis of anonymity shared, “We want to improve the frequency in phase 1 and want to start the Wadala-Jacob Circle section to cater to more commuters. For that, we need rakes immediately. In the meantime, the contractor has been asked to repair the six trains that are in Mumbai. Some of them need retrofitting, or new tyres, etc. Once they are repaired and pressed into service, we can improve the frequency and also start phase 2.”

MMRDA has been facing several issues post operation of monorail. There were instances of technical glitches and one of its rakes also caught fire last year.

Bangalore Metro | IL&FS crisis possibly will hit work on 2 Metro lines

Bengaluru: Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) is in a cash-strapped situation. Questions are now raised over timely completion of Namma Metro projects on both the lines. These include the Mysuru Road Station – Kengeri on Mysuru Road stretch as well the K R Puram Silk Board on Outer Ring Road.

It was in April 2015 that IL&FS bagged the Rs 327-crore contract for construction of viaduct and stations on the 3.95km route starting from the current Mysuru Road station to Pattanagere (Reach 2A).

IL&FS -the Mumbai-based infrastructure development firm is also responsible for construction four elevated metro stations: These are at Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Jnanabharathi and Pattanagere towards Kengeri on the Mysuru Road stretch.

As per sources Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has issued letter of acceptance to IL&FS Silk Board-Bellandur stretch. In fact as per BMRCL, the company emerged winner in all the three packages. These were for the 17km ORR metro project. The three packages were:

  • Silk Board-Bellandur
  • Bellandur-Doddanekkundi
  • Doddanekkundi-K R Puram

BMRCL is now worried over completion of the project. The debt laden company might not be able to complete the metro project. It is essential that the metro project is completed on time as it is vital to improve public transport in the city.

The Mysuru Road stretch towards Kengeri that was the west extension of East-West corridor, had to be completed some 27 months back. But IL&FS has been missing multiple deadlines with BMRCL also imposing a fine of over 1 crore.

BMRCL is however, optimistic that work on Mysuru stretch will be wrapped up as it is on the advanced stages.

With this new development the metro officials are contemplating of exploring other viable options. But floating new tender might further delay the project. BMRCL is now is a perfect Catch-22 situation.

IL&FS is burdened with a consolidated debt of around Rs 91000 crore. It is under scanner over non-repayment of loans and financial disclosure. Regulatory agencies are keeping a close watch over the affairs of the company.

Delhi Metro | Metro Smart Card is applicable in all buses just for name

0
DMRC Metro Card

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched new to the passengers to use its ‘Metro Smart Card’ in the public transport owned by the Delhi Government to make the travel smooth and easier for the passengers. However, Delhi Metro has excluded this facility for the last mile connecting ‘Metro feeder’ buses.

The recent report was found that out of 174 buses not even a single feeder bus has the facility to purchase tickets using the metro smart card. Surprisingly, the ‘Common Mobility card’ is still a distant dream for the metro feeder buses as these buses are yet to be equipped with the ‘Electronic Ticketing Machines’.

There are currently total 174 fleets affiliated with Delhi Metro and these ply on around 42 routes. Metro has allotted four depots at Yamuna Banks, Chattarpur, Paschim Vihar West and Azadpur.

None of the buses were equipped with digital ticketing system. The conductors issued only manual tickets. No such ticketing facility is issued to us,” said a travaller.

The bus numbered with route number 307 that runs from Laxmi Nagar to Kalyanpuri.

In an another journey at West Delhi from Naraina Ring Road to Inderpuri and from Inderpuri to Todapur and Rajendra Place metro, most of the buses run on these routes do not issue tickets.

Payal Verma who travels daily from Shadipur Metro station to till Inderpuri said, “The conductors of these buses know nothing about the smart card. They even don’t give tickets even after paying. They just remember the faces of the passengers and drop them at their destination.”

Another student also shares their experience that these buses don’t give tickets and most of the time our stands get missed waiting for the conductor to give us the change. Being the smartest, DMRC should enable the smart card for its buses also.”

According to Delhi Metro, traveling up-to to 4Kms is for Rs 5.00, and from 4kms to 10 Kms it is Rs 10.00 and further above10Kms costs Rs 15.00.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has provided hand held machines to the operators. Presently, some technical issues are being faced in a few of the hand held ticketing machines which are under rectification, said DMRC.

Meanwhile, a senior officer from the Transport Department said, “It is only the Delhi Government that always thinks for the welfare of its city and people. It is shame that being the owner, the DMRC do not have the common mobility card facility. More and more, it is fun hearing that the digitized and costliest transports of our country capital do not have an ETM facility.”
