Jaipur Metro | JMRC likely to advance on Second Phase of metro

0

Jaipur:  The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is likely to advance to the second phase of metro project. This despite the fact that the first phase is largely held as non-viable in its current format by the CAG. But that is not stopping JMRC to initiate Jaipur Metro Phase II plan.

JMRC plans to go ahead with second phase with the current capacities it has. The state urban development department is confident of taking things ahead and it does not foresee any halt to the project at the present state. They are optimistic even as chance of any financial assistance from government in the centre is bleak.

Additional chief secretary, urban development shared that the project cannot be halted at the moment. They have to initiative work on second phase in order to reinstate feasibility to the project.

According to a report in DNA, a news portal- It has been accepted by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation that the DMRC has used inflated population estimates while preparing initial detailed project report of the metro. A recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) office has also raised an objection on the selection of the first phase for implementation. The report has suggested that JMRC must look for alternative arrangements like light rail transport for its second phase. The revenue generation for the first phase of the metro has been largely short in comparison to its operational cost. However, JMRC officials insist on the necessity of a medium-scale metro for Jaipur.

A senior JMRC official states the even the latest survey with rectified population figures suggest the requirement of an additional medium-metro corridor from Sitapura to VKI.

The metro officials are unwilling to implement an economic light rail transit system for the second phase. Given the fact that the arrangement for funding the project is going to be one challenging task for the government.

With a nonexistence unified metropolitan transport authority, the state is not likely to get financial assistance from central government for the Jaipur metro.

The state government has been trying to chase the government at the centre for a 20 per cent share in the Jaipur Metro. This process unfortunately remains pending in absence of due dealings at end of state government.

Mumbai: Mumbai, September 24, 2018 – The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra State Mr Devendra Fadnavis, today, witnessed the breakthrough of the first TBM of

Metro-3 corridor at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal-2 station. Wainganga 1, the Tunnel Boring Machine, which was commissioned on 8 January 2018 from Pali ground Marol completed its tunnel drive of 1.26-km in package 7 to see the light at its end at CSMIA T2 station.

It marks the achievement of an important milestone towards the coherent completion of the 33.5-km long Metro-3 corridor. It is the result of blood and sweat expended by a team of nearly 250 engineers, technical and mechanical workers together. ” The state government has embarked upon its journey to complete 270 km long comprehensive Metro network over next 3 to 4 years and Metro 3 is an important part of the same.

I am extremely pleased to witness the first TBM breakthrough achieved by Metro 3 team today. It is no doubt an important step towards a safer, more comfortable and faster mode of transport to be made available to Mumbai citizens, ” said the visibly happy Chief Minister Mr.Devendra Fadnavis. Wainganga 1, made its way through the rocky strata made of Basalt, Breccia and Tuff drilling relentlessly for exactly 259 days to attain the breakthrough which will now be remembered for a long time and will certainly be lettered in the history book of the corridor.

It has charted its course from under important infrastructure like Metro Line-1 and Sahar Elevated Road. The 92-meter long Wainganga bored, on an average, 4.6 meters daily shaping the tunnel with 901 RCC cement rings. Metro-3 corridor in its 4.157 km long package 7 spread between CSMIA T 2 station to the ramp at Aarey colony will provide access to Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 at Marol Naka and Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg-Vikhroli Metro-6 corridor at SEEPZ and also to business hubs like MIDC and SEEPZ which today are not connected by suburban rail.

Of course, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) hasn’t achieved the feat without its share of challenges at various levels, hard work and colourful rancour! “Team MMRC could overcome the challenges only with a strong support from Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr.Devendra Fadnavis, his very effective War Room and all other stakeholders”, concluded Ms.Bhide.

MMRC, as of today, has completed about 9-km of tunnelling and has generated and disposed of 19,40,254 cubic meters of muck. For the purpose, 17 Tunnel Boring Machines have been lowered in ten TBM shafts and 14 of them have been commissioned. The remaining three will join the squad to drill through the underbelly of the city in the next month.

This will also be the first corridor that is completed and made operational for public there.

On the other hand construction work is in progress for two other routes. These includes

  • Corridor Two – Jubilee Bus Station to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (Imlibun)/Falaknuma – 15 km
  • Corridor Three – Nagole to HiTec City/Raidurg – 28 km

As per the plan a total of 72km elevated metro line is constructed in three densely populated and heavy traffic locations in the capital

Last year in November Prime Minister Narendra Modi had began the opening of 30 km metro line of Nagole-Ameerpet-Miyapur. The ceremony was conducted in presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as well as others. It also enclosed parts of Corridor Three – Nagole to Ameerpet (17 km) as well as Corridor One of Miyapur to Ameerpet (13 km).

Till now around lakh passengers travel in Hyderabad Metro. With the new line becoming operational, the ridership is expected to double in coming months.

This project also is world’s largest public-private partnership. The government has given around ₹3,000 crore for land acquisition, shift utilities and widening of roads.

MMRDA to procure rakes by bidding to increase monorail frequency

0
Mumbai Monorail
Mumbai Monorail

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA  is taking steps to increase monorail frequency. The officials plan to get rakes via bidding process. The focus is to get the Wadala-Jacob Circle route commissioned at the earliest.

This step was taken with Scomi Engineering; the Monorail operator might not be able to deliver rakes even before mid 2019. Scomi Engineering was to deliver additional four-coach trains that will help increase frequency. Now the chances are bleak as per MMRDA officials. Waiting for them would affect monorail services in the city.

MMRDA plans to use bidding process instead of waiting for the contractor. They plan to purchase rakes via bidding to speed up the process.

Additional metropolitan commissioner of MMRDA, Sanjay Khandare shared that they are working out alternative option to procure additional rakes. They do not want to wait for the contractor to deliver; instead they are exploring other options.

Very soon MMRDA will be inviting tender for purchasing the rakes as per senior MMRDA authority.

As per records, Monorail authorities have 10 four-coach trains. Out which only four are operation, the others are under repair and maintenance.

It was only in September that Monorail restarted its operation post the incident. Currently, it is operating only three trains with one being on standby for any emergency situation.

This arrangement means compromising the frequency of the services on 8.9-km route. Monorail commuters have to wait for around 15 minutes to board a train between Chembur and Wadala depot.

A senior MMRDA while speaking to Hindustan Times on the basis of anonymity shared, “We want to improve the frequency in phase 1 and want to start the Wadala-Jacob Circle section to cater to more commuters. For that, we need rakes immediately. In the meantime, the contractor has been asked to repair the six trains that are in Mumbai. Some of them need retrofitting, or new tyres, etc. Once they are repaired and pressed into service, we can improve the frequency and also start phase 2.”

MMRDA has been facing several issues post operation of monorail. There were instances of technical glitches and one of its rakes also caught fire last year.

Bangalore Metro | IL&FS crisis possibly will hit work on 2 Metro lines

0
Bangalore Metro

Bengaluru: Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) is in a cash-strapped situation. Questions are now raised over timely completion of Namma Metro projects on both the lines. These include the Mysuru Road Station – Kengeri on Mysuru Road stretch as well the K R Puram Silk Board on Outer Ring Road.

It was in April 2015 that IL&FS bagged the Rs 327-crore contract for construction of viaduct and stations on the 3.95km route starting from the current Mysuru Road station to Pattanagere (Reach 2A).

IL&FS -the Mumbai-based infrastructure development firm is also responsible for construction four elevated metro stations: These are at Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Jnanabharathi and Pattanagere towards Kengeri on the Mysuru Road stretch.

As per sources Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has issued letter of acceptance to IL&FS Silk Board-Bellandur stretch. In fact as per BMRCL, the company emerged winner in all the three packages. These were for the 17km ORR metro project. The three packages were:

  • Silk Board-Bellandur
  • Bellandur-Doddanekkundi
  • Doddanekkundi-K R Puram

BMRCL is now worried over completion of the project. The debt laden company might not be able to complete the metro project. It is essential that the metro project is completed on time as it is vital to improve public transport in the city.

The Mysuru Road stretch towards Kengeri that was the west extension of East-West corridor, had to be completed some 27 months back. But IL&FS has been missing multiple deadlines with BMRCL also imposing a fine of over 1 crore.

BMRCL is however, optimistic that work on Mysuru stretch will be wrapped up as it is on the advanced stages.

With this new development the metro officials are contemplating of exploring other viable options. But floating new tender might further delay the project. BMRCL is now is a perfect Catch-22 situation.

IL&FS is burdened with a consolidated debt of around Rs 91000 crore. It is under scanner over non-repayment of loans and financial disclosure. Regulatory agencies are keeping a close watch over the affairs of the company.
