DMRC Installed Platform screen doors (PSD) at Rajiv Chowk station

0

DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) installed Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at Rajiv Chowk metro station on Metro Yellow Line, one of the busiest stops in the Delhi Metro network.

Official Twitter handle of Delhi Metro wrote on Twitter “Platform screen doors have been installed at Rajiv Chowk metro station (Yellow Line) to help in crowd management at the interchange station”.

In View of Safety of passengers, The DMRC had undertaken a project to install PSDs at six stations on the Yellow Line  Kashmere Gate, Chawri Bazaar, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, and Central Secretariat. While PSDs were installed at Chawri Bazaar, Chandni Chowk and New Delhi stations last year, Kashmere Gate got the safety feature in March this year.

The installation of PSDs at Rajiv Chowk station marks the end of the DMRC’s project.

The new metro lines Pink and Magenta Lines and the Airport Express Line have the platform doors installed at their respective stations.

PSDs help to better manage crowd management at interchange stations and also improves the air-conditioning flow at underground stations. These doors also help to prevent incidents of commuters falling on tracks.

There have been demands from commuters to install PSDs at all stations of the Delhi Metro network in the wake of rising suicide incidents.

Chennai Metro turns off AC in Stations and Trains due to City Water Crisis

Tender invited to complete the remaining work in Chennai Metro Phase-I Project

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has begun turning off it’s air-conditioning (ACs) to reduce water consumption. The CMRL has resorted to the extreme measure as summer temperatures have been soaring across the state and the water levels in the four lakes in Chennai’s periphery have recorded one of the lowest in 70 years.

The CMRL has resorted to turning off the air-conditioning during non-peak hours between noon and 5 pm. The Chennai Metro, a 45-km long commute around the city, reportedly guzzles 9,000 litres of water daily with nearly 80% of that going towards operating the air-conditioning system.

CMRL officials said that We switch on the AC system once in an hour to make sure we maintain 26 deg C at both platform and concourse levels. By switching off, we are able to save around 30% of water at every station. We ensure temperatures of 25 to 26 deg C is maintained in the trains. Every coach has two 41KV AC units. Our units in trains have been working efficiently and have so far not reported any failure.

The moves may help save water, the report also states that passengers have been inconvenienced due to it. It may be noted that unlike other modes of public transportation available in the city Chennai metro and buses, a huge part of the Chennai Metro’s appeal to commuters is the air-conditioning.

Worsening the water crisis across the city, close to 5,000 private water tankers that supply water to Chennai from Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts threatened to go on strike beginning May 27, following a crackdown by the government on ‘illegal’ drawing of water. While the Tamil Nadu Private Water Tanker Lorry Owners’ Association temporarily called off the strike, the move prompted over 100 residents’ association across Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) to write to the Chief Minister, seeking his intervention to address the water crisis.

L&T Creates World Record to Construct 2,599 Metro Pillars

Hyderabad Metro

HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News): L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited create a world record for becoming the first company to construct 2,599 metro pillars.

This was on the 66-km stretch on which the LTMRHL has erected the 2599th pillar near the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), exactly 2,599 days after work started on the project in April 2012. after this, the entire project barring a 6-km stretch in Hyderabad’s Old City area has been completed.

Mr Reddy said that Permissions from Defence(took 4 years); Railways(4 years); NH(3 yrs)& innumerable other government organisations; winning over 370 cases in High Court etc. Handling 20 religious structures with patient negotiations in an adroit manner in a communally sensitive Indian city & handling heritage & other sensitive issues – no MIT, Stanford or Harvard can teach you. One needs to be a dexterous leader & not a bureaucrat/manager to do so,” he said.

“The process involved translocation of over 2,100 trees and removal of 3,000 trees”, Said NVS Reddy. He further added that this also includes the compensatory plantation of 6 lakh saplings; besides making the roads wider, widening of culverts and nalas, for smooth flow of traffic during metro construction.

The team is all set to complete the Corridor III (Nagole to Raidurg) which is about 1.5 km from Raidurg or about 29 km, in all respects by July to put in place normal metro rail operations with better frequency.

Currently, metro rail services are being run from Nagole to Ameerpet normally and from there to HiTec City, the operations are run on twin tracks since the line up to Raidurg is still under construction and the ‘reversal’ at the HiTech City is under works .

Further, Passengers are also getting a new station on the blue line of the Metro tracks in the city. The blue line runs between Nagole and Hitec city at present and in the future, it will be extended till Rayadurgam.

Blue line connect with Aqua Line
Blue line connect with Aqua Line

Citing the hardships faced by commuters, senior citizens have demanded a bridge that will connect sector-51 station of Noida Metro’s Aqua line with the nearby Delhi Metro Blue line.

200 M Walk

Currently, passengers have to exit at Sector 51 station and walk nearly 200 metres on an under-construction road to take the Blue line at Sector 52 station. The 29.7-km Aqua line runs between Sector 51 and Depot stations.

“What is more painful is that commuters need to get themselves frisked again to board the Blue Line, thus consuming a lot of time,” said a senior citizen and He demanded that the Noida Metro Rail Corporation consider building a bridge to connect the two stations.

further, he said that I do not understand why the Noida Metro Rail Corporation is causing such big trouble to senior citizens and women travelling with children to walk on a road to board the Blue Line. They must build a bridge as early as possible. he has given a suggestion in this regard officially to the Noida Metro authority.

People can take e-rickshaws, run by Noida rail corporation at free of cost, at Sector 51 to go to the Blue Line station but during the peak hours or late in the night the e-rickshaws are unavailable. Moreover, the road on which the e-rickshaws ply, is filled with dust as construction is underway.
