CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recently awarded a contract to a contractor for the construction of an underground metro line to connect main city areas such as Marina Beach, Mylapore, Alwarpet, Nandanam, and T Nagar.

ITD Cementation India Limited has been awarded contracts to build twin tunnels and ten underground stations between Lighthouse at Marina Beach and the Kodambakkam overpass, according to officials. The 10-kilometre route will be part of the 26.1-kilometre corridor-4 bypass that runs from the Lighthouse to Poonamallee.

Contracts for the entire corridor-4, as well as the Poonamallee depot, have been granted as a result of this. While the new length has a four-year deadline, the 118.9-kilometre phase-2 is projected to be completed by 2026.

R Ramanathan, former CMRL director stated “Once a tender is awarded for an underground stretch, it usually takes an average six months for the construction to begin because the firm has to mobilise machinery and manpower. In case of underground lines, they have to import tunnel boring machines”.

The construction firm was awarded contracts for two underground stretches on corridor-4, from LightHouse to Bharathidasan Road station, spanning a 5.15-kilometer underground line with five stations, according to officials. Light House, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet, and Bharathidasan Road are among them. As part of corridor-3, an interchange station connecting corridors 3 and 4 will be built at Thirumayilai (Mylapore).

A 4.87-kilometer underground line from Boat Club to the Kodambakkam flyover is part of the other contract. Five stations will be located at Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam, and the Kodambakkam flyover, as well as a crossover at Panagal Park enabling trains to change tracks.

According to Ramanathan, the diaphragm wall or outer walls of the stations are normally erected by cutting through the soil from the road’s surface before the tunnel construction begins. DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL), a Reliance Infrastructure’s subsidiary, to appear before the Delhi High Court on January 31 and requested that the dispute over the execution of an arbitral award worth over Rs 4,600 crore be heard as soon as possible.

According to a bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai, the hearing on the execution application cannot be postponed any longer because it is injurious to both parties interests. On September 9, 2021, the Supreme Court upheld DAMEPL’s 2017 arbitration award of roughly Rs 4,600 crore, which was enforceable against the DMRC.

DAMEPL’s senior counsel, Mukul Rohatgi, argued that the corporation is facing a flurry of legal actions. “There is no defence after the apex court has upheld the order. Let them deposit the money. The court can give them a few months, but the execution cannot be stalled for no reason,” he stated.

Senior advocate Parag Tripathi, representing DMRC, stated that it was willing to assume DAMEPL’s liabilities up to the amount of the award money because it would be in a stronger position to bargain with the lender banks. He claimed that they had agreed to the proposal in their conversation.

On the other hand, Rohatgi stated, “I will deal with my creditors myself. Who is he to deal with my creditors?” DAMEPL wrote to DMRC on December 30, 2021, asking whether it was willing to take over its debt, which was to be paid by DAMEPL and Reliance Infrastructure to their lenders, according to Tripathi.

Construction of Depot cum Workshop at Challaghatta in Reach-2 Extension of Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Phase-2 is the brief scope. For railway operators, introducing LTE/4.9G technology for ETCS is a significant benefit that will pave the way for a smooth transition to FRMCS (Future Railway Communication System).
