MAHARASHTRA (Metro Rail News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) has established an operation control centre (OCC) to use innovative technology to oversee the whole metro system at Range Hill Depot. The Maha Metro will be able to remotely supervise every component of the system from this hub, like rail speed, the signal system, frequency, electrical use and supply, cameras, and escalators.

Atul Gadgil, the project director of Maha Metro, and Vinod Agrawal, the director of systems and operations, stated that “We used the most advanced technology to build this centre. Maha Metro may operate the metro train from this centre without a driver, however, we have a driver only as psychological support. At this centre, we have access to all live data. Both the PCMC to Swargate and the Vanaz to Ramwadi metro lines will be served by it. Provisions have been made for the extended and phase 2 routes from here.

Agrawal stated that the Pune Metro will only need 20 people for a 1-kilometre stretch by utilising the most advanced technology.

The primary purpose of the OCC is to handle day-to-day operations and maintenance of the metro rail system. All emergencies related to metro operations and passengers and public safety will be responded to in real time.

The OCC can maintain vigilance with live cameras even though experienced staff members such as the chief controller, traffic controller, rolling stock controller, signalling controller, traction power controller, and auxiliary system controller have been appointed. The centre will monitor all of the Pune Metro’s public safety features. The OCC will receive a direct feed from every metro station 24×7. All activities and the feed can be controlled and monitored from the OCC in case of any emergencies, metro officials stated.
