NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): A 130 meter long underground pedestrian subway providing connectivity between the Terminal 1 – IGI Domestic Airport Metro Station of Magenta Line and the Arrival Terminal of the Domestic Airport Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, was opened for public on 4th December in the presence of Sh. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Each entry/exit of the subway has two escalators and two lifts each along with a staircase. The lifts which have been installed in the subway for passenger movement are more spacious than the general lifts installed in the Metro system and have a capacity of carrying about 26 people. The subway has also been decorated with attractive artwork in line with DMRC’s efforts to depict the rich heritage of the region.

ADB and GOI sign a loan agreement to construct three new metro lines in Chennai

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India inked a loan agreement for $350 million to construct three new metro lines in Chennai on January 3.

The loan is a component of the $780 million multi-tranche financing facility (MFF) for developing three new metro lines in Chennai that ADB approved on December 8 2022.

Chennai Metro Rail Investment Project

The Chennai Metro Rail Investment Project would help to expand its current metro rail network in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu on India’s southeast coast.

The investment project supports three new metro corridors, 3, 4, and 5, linking Chennai’s centre region to essential locations in the city’s south and west.

The 10.1 km elevated portion of Corridor 3 between Sholinganallur and State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu-2, as well as nine metro stations and other system elements, will be built as part of the project.

The project for Corridor 4 will help to construct a 10 km underground route, with nine stations, between Lighthouse and Meenakshi College.

It would fund 31 km of system components for Corridor 5 between Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and Okkiyam Thoraipakkam. These components include electrical, mechanical, power, and telecommunication infrastructure.

The three lines’ stations will have disaster and climate resilience elements as well as amenities that cater to the requirements of the elderly, women, children, persons with disabilities, and transgender people.

To enhance commuters’ experiences, multimodal interchanges and facilities will be built along metro train corridors, including drop-off and pick-up points, covered waiting areas, bicycle facilities, and passenger information.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will receive an additional $1 million ADB technical assistance (TA) grant to aid in planning and to manage the metro system’s multimodal integration.

 

Chennai Metro Phase I

The first Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project spans a network of 45.046 km and consists of two corridors: corridor one from Washermenpet to the airport (23.085 km) and corridor two from Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount (25 km) (21.961 km).

In Phase 1, there are 55 per cent of underground corridors, and the remaining are elevated. There are 32 stations total, of which 13 are elevated, and the remaining 19 are underground.

The first stretch of the Chennai Metro was inaugurated in 2015, and the final stretch was opened on February 10, 2019.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has extended the entire loan for the Phase I project to Rs. 8646 crores, t (47 per cent of the total cost).

Chennai Metro Phase II

The State government of Tamil Nadu decided to extend the Metro Project by constructing 118.9 Km under Chennai Metro Phase II with three routes to meet the growing demand for quick and sustainable mass transit systems and increase the share of the public transportation system.

  • Corridor-3 (C3): Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km)
  • Corridor-4 (C4): Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass (26.1 Km)
  • Corridor-5 (C5): Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47.0 Km)

In August 2021, the Central Government approved the Phase 2 project for Rs. 61843 billion.

External loans are being used to fund the project from JICA, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the New Development Bank (NDB).

The project is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2026, with civil contracts granted for the majority of the packages.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): At the start of the new year, NCRTC charged Over Head Equipment (OHE) at 25 KV capacity from Duhai Depot to Ghaziabad RRTS station to run India’s first Regional Rail in the Priority Section. The RRTS train successfully rode up to Ghaziabad RRTS station to test the charged OHE. OHE in the remaining portion of the priority section will also be charged soon.

To make a safe and reliable RRTS network, all different technical elements are to be tested individually. Once these tests are successful, all its sub-systems, viz. rolling stock, OHE, track and telecom & signalling, as well as station infrastructure, platform screen doors etc., will be tested in an integrated manner to check their compatibility with each other and their behaviour from the public safety point of view. The track work has already been laid out in the priority section.

In this new year, Over Head Equipment (OHE) has been charged with a capacity of 25 KV from the feeding post of the RRTS depot in Duhai to the feeding post near Ghaziabad RRTS station. To test the functioning of the OHE, the train was taken out of the depot for the first time and brought to the Ghaziabad RRTS station. It was a unique and first-time experience for all the engineers, technicians, architects, and staff working on the project to successfully test the OHE for the first Regional Rail in the country.

To test the track and traction, the RRTS train was run from Duhai Station to Guldhar station at five kmph. After the functioning of OHE was successful, the train proceeded towards Ghaziabad station and returned from the crossover built before the station. During this process, the train was operated manually under the Train Control Management System (TCMS).
On the return journey from Ghaziabad, the train’s speed was accelerated at 25 kmph to test the OHE, and first stopped at Guldhar station, then at Duhai station and finally brought back to Duhai Depot station.
The installation of OHE on this entire section has reached the final stage, and soon the priority section will be fully charged. As a result, the high-speed trial run will soon commence in the priority section.

NCRTC is targeting to commence the operations of trains in the priority section in March 2023. This section has five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot. All these stations are almost ready for operations, and currently, their finishing is being done.

VNC-KEC JV bags contract to supply HHR for Chennai metro Phase 2

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): CMRL has awarded a contract to JV venture of KEC International Ltd. and Vijay Nirman Company to supply head-hardened rails for Corridor 5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur) of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2 on December 30, 2022. CMRL has issued a contract order (letter of acceptance) worth Rs 206.64 crore to them.

The project’s scope of work comprises the installation of ballastless tracks and the provision of head-hardened rails, turnouts, and fasteners in 16 metro stations (including CMBT, Annanagar KV Metro, Thirumangalam Junction Metro, Anna Nagar West Metro, Retteri Junction Metro, Shastri Nagar Metro, Madhavaram Bus Terminal Metro, Velmurugan Nagar Metro, Manchambakkam Metro and Assisi Nagar Metro are Elevated Metro Stations and Villivakkam MTH Road Metro, Villivakkam Bus Terminal Metro, Villivakkam Metro, Srinivasa Nagar Metro Kolathur Junction Metro and Madhavaram Depot Metro are Underground Metro Stations) of Chennai Metro Phase 2.

In January 2022, a tender notice for the work mentioned above (contract package CP18B ATW-12/2022) was issued with an estimated contract value of Rs 194 crore. Financial bids were opened on August 20, 2022, and technical bids were opened in June 2022.

Several representatives from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, KEC International Ltd, and the Vijay Nirman Company, including T. Archunan (Director/Projects), S. Ashok Kumar, CCM (T&EC), Livingstone, CGM (PP&D), Smt. Rekha Prakash, CCM (PD), Gurunath Reddy, ACM (CP), Sivaguru, Project Manager, and Praveen Coel (Director, KEC International) were present during the signing of the contract.

Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro’s Corridor 5 (Red Line) would have 48 stations connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony and Sholinganallur. Forty-one are elevated, 6 are underground, and 1 is at grade.

Linxon bags traction power supply contract for Phase 2 development of Chennai metro

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): CMRL has awarded a contract to Linxon for the power supply works for the development of the Chennai metro Phase 2. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding the project.

The recently awarded contract is a part of Phase 2, which will dramatically increase ridership and decrease congestion, especially around Chennai’s expanding IT hub.

The new lines, named 3, 4, and 5, are Phase 2 and are about 119 kilometres long.

 

“This entire phase 2 project is expected to be completed in five years and increase daily ridership by 1.55 million people,” said Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director of System and Operations at Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

“This contract is in line with our from the grid to vehicle vision, ensuring reliable and sustainable electric power supply, transmission and distribution. We are delighted to be part of the creation of eco-friendly public transport,” said Stefan Reisacher, CEO of Linxon. “This project further cements our market leadership position for power supply projects in the Asia Pacific region. The rail business has tremendous potential in the coming years and Linxon is a pioneer in this segment.”

Linxon builds the foundation for supplying the entire planet with carbon-free energy. It is adding its engineering expertise to the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, training, and commissioning of the power supply system for this significant mass urban rail development project with the help of this new contract. 

A supervisory control and data acquisition system, wayside substations, power cables, overhead catenary systems, traction substations, and main auxiliary substations are all included in the project’s scope.

The Kochi metro‘s Phases 1A and 1B were inaugurated in September of this year by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and in the presence of the Chief Minister of Kerala. This news builds on the successful completion of that contract, which was awarded in 2020.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) has chosen HG Infra Engineering Ltd. as the low bidder for a construction project for Rs 398.63 crore.

The offer from the construction and infrastructure engineering firm was Rs 412.11 crore, whereas the project’s estimated cost from DMRC was Rs 398.63 crore.

The project’s construction is expected to be finished in 24 months.

The project’s scope involves the part design and construction of an elevated viaduct and four elevated stations — Eshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, and Mangolpuri — from P2 to PP88 and from P103 to Mangolpuri Station of Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Corridor of Phase- IV of Delhi MRTS.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sent the company a letter of award (LOA) last week for a project in Haryana.

HG Infra will build a 6-lane Greenfield Karnal Ring Road that will begin at NH44 close to Shamgarh Village and conclude at Karnal-Munak Road close to Samalkha Village under the Bharatmala Pariyojana.

The company’s overall revenue for the first six months of the current fiscal year was Rs 1,817.74 crore, up 9.05 per cent from Rs 1,666.81 crore during the corresponding time last year. Compared to the previous year, the profit after tax (PAT) was Rs 162.3 crore as opposed to Rs 158.8 crore.

HG Infra’s stock has gained 0.71 per cent to Rs 624.30 a share.

Pune Metro takes a first trial run between twin cities

PUNE (Metro Rail News):  Pune Metro has a total length of 33.2 km comprising two lines Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Station (PCMC) to Swargate Station (17 km) and Vanaz Station to Ramwadi Station (16 km). Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Station (PCMC) to Phugewadi (7 km) and Vanaz to Garware College (5 km) routes were inaugurated on 6 March 2022 by the hands of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and opened to the public. Overall 85% of the work has been completed and the work of the remaining 21 km stretch is going in full swing, and it will be opened to the public in a few months.

Recently, Pune Metro successfully completed trial runs from Garware College Station to Civil Court Interchange elevated Station and Range hill Station to Civil Court Interchange Underground Station. On 31st Dec 2022, the metro train started the trial run from Phugewadi station at 10:00 hrs crossing Dapodi station, Bopodi station, Khadki station, Range hill station and Shivajinagar station, it reached the Civil Court underground station at 11:20 Hrs. The duration of this trial run was approximately 45 minutes. Also, the second trial run from the Civil Court station elevated station started at 11:20 am and the metro train reached the Vanaz elevated station at 11: 45 Hrs covering a distance of 25 mts for this test. Both these tests were carried out as planned and scheduled.

The trial run covered a total length of 15 kms (Phugewadi Station to Civil Court Underground Station – 8 km and Civil Court (Elevated Station) to Vanaz (Elevated Station) – 7 km). On 31st December trial run marks the first metro train run between the twin cities of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune. The route from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Station (PCMC) to Swargate Station will connect these two twin cities through the ‘Mass Rapid Transit System‘. In both these cities, a large number of people travel back and forth for jobs or work.

The metro service will provide fast, comfortable, and safe urban transport to these citizens. Also, with the completion of the test on the elevated route from Civil Court (elevated station) to Vanaz station, this route can be started in the next few months. Therefore, the citizens will be benefited to a large extent. For the citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad, Khadki, Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Jungli Maharaj Road, Fergusson College Road (No. Gopal Krishna Gokhale Road), Garware College, Nal Stop, Vanaz etc. It will be possible to go to the place by metro.

On this occasion, the Managing Director of Mahametro Dr Brijesh Dixit said, “On 31st December trial run from Phugewadi Station to Civil Court Interchange elevated station is a historic moment for both the cities of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune. The twin cities of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune will be connected by Metro and in the coming months, travel between the twin cities from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation station (PCMC) to Civil Court Interchange station will be possible. Overall 85% of Pune Metro work has been completed and the rest of the work will be completed in the coming months.”

NEW DELHI (Metro rail News): Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti has taken over the charge of new Chairman & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board (Ministry of Railways) from 1st January 2023. The appointments committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti as Chairman & CEO of Railway Board. Before this, Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti worked as Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board.

Sh. Lahoti belongs to Indian Railway Service of Engineers, 1984 batch and has been empanelled in the first panel of Indian Railways Management Service for Level-17. He has graduated in Civil Engineering with Gold Medal from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior and did his Master of Engineering (Structures) from University of Roorkee (IIT, Roorkee). During his more than 36 years of career in railways, he has worked in various capacities over Central, Northern, North Central, Western and West Central Railways and in Railway Board.

Shri Lahoti has earlier worked as General Manager, Central Railway and also looked after the charge of GM, Western Railway for several months. His stint as General Manager is credited with achieving highest ever freight and parcel traffic in terms of tonnage carried and revenue earned including running of the highest number of Kissan Rails. He also brought about record improvement in revenue by non-fare opportunities, sale of scrap and extensive ticket checking drives. He successfully steered and resolved the vexed issue of expansion of air conditioned sub-urban services in Mumbai. During his tenure, Central Railway recorded a quantum jump in execution and commissioning of infrastructure projects and commissioned the long awaited 5th & 6th line between Diva and Thane in Mumbai.

He had worked as Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow, Northern Railway, where he took several initiatives to improve freight movement on the Lucknow-Varanasi-DDU route as an alternative to the congested Ghaziabad-Prayagraj-DDU route. His stint saw a substantial improvement in passenger amenities and cleanliness standards at stations on Lucknow division.

As Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) and Chief Engineer (Construction) on Northern Railway, he executed a large number of infrastructure projects of New Lines, Doubling and multi-tracking of track, yard remodelling, important bridges, station construction, etc. The Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi and the iconic Ajmeri Gate side station building of New Delhi station were planned and constructed by him. He was also closely associated with planning for redevelopment of New Delhi station as a World Class station including commercial development of land and air space.

Shri Lahoti has taken training in Strategic Management and Leadership programs at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA; Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy; and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. He has carried out studies of development of stations in Hong Kong, Japan, UK, Germany and Switzerland including commercial development on railway land. He has also visited several countries in connection with developments in track technology and track maintenance machines.

Delhi- Meerut RRTS corridor successfully crosses EDFC at 22 metres height in Meerut

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is complete and has successfully crossed the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) in Meerut at an elevation of around 22 meters. In the Mohiuddinpur of Meerut, portions of viaduct spans have been erected to cross the EDFC.
EDFC is crossing Delhi-Meerut Road after passing the border of Modi Nagar just before Meerut South station of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor. Indian Railways will use this line for its goods trains. The EDFC is at the top, followed by the RRTS corridor, and the Delhi-Meerut Road is at the bottom.
On the entire 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS route, this will be the only location where Indian Railways and RRTS trains will cross a busy road simultaneously. The pillars of the RRTS have also been raised in height to cross the EDFC. In addition, two pillars were built on either side of the EDFC to form the segments of the viaduct span. The separation between these two pillars is 34 meters.
With the assistance of the traffic division, this procedure was accomplished on the road between Delhi and Meerut. As a result, vehicle traffic in this area continued to flow generally at this time.
After crossing the EDFC, Tarini will now build a viaduct that will go to Meerut South station. Tarini has begun constructing viaducts from the Modi Nagar side. The constructing of the viaduct heading into Meerut has advanced to the following phase with the installation of this span.
Meerut South Station will be unique for the locals since the metro train would serve the residents of Meerut from here. Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Brahmapuri, Meerut Central, Bhainsali, Begumpul, MES Colony, Daurli Meerut North Modipuram, and Modipuram Depot stations will follow Meerut South station in the Meerut Metro.

The goal is to operate RRTS trains in the 17 km long priority segment in March of this year. The priority section is being prepared quickly to meet this objective. Teams from the NCRTC are working on this construction project day and night.

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): The second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail is in full swing. The Contract for the construction of track works of Standard Gauge, including all Associated Works between CMBT and Madhavaram Milk Colony for 10.1 km in Corridor 5 of CMRL Phase – 2 projects, was awarded to M/s. KEC – VNC JV at Rs. 206.64 Crores with JICA funding.

The works involve the Supply of Head Hardened Rails, Turnouts, Fastenings and
Installation of Ballastless Tracks in including 16 Metro Station (including CMBT,
Annanagar KV Metro, Thirumangalam Junction Metro, Anna Nagar West Metro,
