L&T & Sojitz Consortium Bags Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project’s Electrification Contract

The Scope of the contract includes commissioning a 2 x 25 Kv OHE system to operate the E5 shinkansen trains.

AHMEDABAD (Metro Rail News): National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has awarded the L&T-Sojitz Consortium with a contract to facilitate a 2 x 25 kv OHE system for the MAHSR Project. 

Package EW-1

NHSRCL had invited bids for the same in December 2022 itself and the bids were opened for technical evaluation thereafter in July 2023. 

Scope of the Contract 

The scope of the contract ranges from Design, Manufacture, Supply, Construction, and Installation to Testing & Commissioning of a 2 x 25 kV Power Supply Electrification System (Traction Substation, Overhead Equipment and MV/LV Power Distribution Equipment), along with Associated Buildings for these Systems and related equipment in training institute. 

MAHSR Corridor 

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Railway (MAHSR) is India’s initial high-speed train route connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It is expected to cost around 1.08 lakh crore. The central government has agreed to contribute ₹10,000 crore, and Gujarat and Maharashtra will contribute ₹5,000 crore each. The remaining funds will be obtained through a loan from Japan at a meagre 0.1% interest rate.
