Completion of Grade Separator Work in Chennai Metro's Corridor 4 

Chennai (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro’s Phase II project progressed with the completion of grade separator work in Corridor 4 between Mullaithottam and Poonamallee Depot. Corridor 4 of Phase 2 spans   26.1 km from Light House Station to the Poonamallee Depot.

As part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate traffic congestion and improve traffic flow, significant progress has been made on the grade separator works at various locations. As of March 1, 2025, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has successfully accomplished a key milestone with the completion of the grade separator works between the Mullaithottam and Karayanchavadi stations. 

A motor trolley was effectively transported from the Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station, arriving at Pier No. 424, which serves as the designated initiation point for the Grade Separator construction. 

Critical RRV Relocation for OHE Operations

Furthermore, the Road cum Rail Vehicle (RRV), an essential asset for the Overhead Equipment (OHE) operations, was also relocated from Poonamallee Depot to Mullaithottam Station. This transfer signifies a crucial advancement in the overall progress of the project.

As per the Press Release, Thiru.T.Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL, along with Thiru.S.Ashok Kumar, CGM (Track & Elevated), Thiru.A.R.Rajendran CGM (Rolling Stock), Thiru. Latief Khan Mohammad – Chief Project Manager-GC (Track), along with officials and staff of CMRL and contractors, were present during the inspection.

CMRL’s Vision for Chennai Metro Line 4

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is making progress in civil construction work between Porur and the Poonamallee Depot, with the objective of commencing passenger services along this segment by the end of 2025.
