HYDERABAD (Metro Rail News) : Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has written to Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy, seeking his intervention to expedite the Central Government’s final approval for the long-pending Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Revanth Reddy pointed out that the Centre, through a communication dated 15 January 2026, has already conveyed its in-principle nod for the project. That communication also proposed the formation of a joint committee of Central and state officials and asked Telangana to name two members to it. The Joint Committee will oversee the transfer procedure of Hyderabad Metro Phase 1.
Revanth Reddy also recalled his meetings with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on 18 November and 3 December 2025, during which both sides agreed that a joint committee would be the most effective way to speed up the sanction process for Phase 2.
Acting on this understanding, the state government nominated the Principal Secretary (Finance) and the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) as its representatives on 12 December 2025.
Revanth Reddy stressed that the Telangana government has been in continuous coordination with the Centre over the project. Arguing that early approval of Phase 2 is crucial for Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure and the state’s economic growth, he urged Kishan Reddy to use his position in the Union Cabinet to ensure that the formal approvals are issued without further delay.
