The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has announced an ambitious plan to develop a massive 1,575 km  metro network across Uttar Pradesh by 2047. The comprehensive blueprint was unveiled by UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar during the “Viksit Uttar Pradesh for Viksit Bharat@2047” seminar.

The initial phase focuses on expanding metro systems in the state’s three established metro cities, with 225 km planned for Lucknow, 200 km for Kanpur, and 100 km for Agra.

Beyond these, the plan proposes 150 km networks for Noida-Greater Noida, Varanasi, and Prayagraj each. Key districts including Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, and Meerut are slated to have 50 km metro networks.

Approximately 790 km of this metro infrastructure is targeted for completion by 2035. Kumar emphasized the financial viability of the project, stating that the state government’s annual contribution for the initial 525 km expansion would be Rs 1,040 crore.

He also highlighted UPMRC’s strong operational track record, noting their existing metro systems are already benchmarks for efficiency and performance.
