KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Kanpur Metro Project progressed as Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) conducted a trial run on Corridor 1 of Kanpur Metro Project which spans 23.785 km between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta covering 21 stations.
UPMRCL completed the first test run from Kanpur Central to Naubasta on the ‘up-line’ of Corridor-1. The trial was conducted in the presence of UPMRC’s MD Shri Sushil Kumar. During this he also inspected the track, third rail, power supply, and signaling system of Line 1.

The Phase 1 of Kanpur Metro spans 32.4 km covering two metro corridors. Currently, the Line 1 of Kanpur Metro is partially operational and Line 2 is completely under construction. The details of the corridors have been mentioned below:

In December 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority corridor of Kanpur Metro which is a 9 km section of Corridor 1 which connects IIT Kanpur with Moti Jheel. In addition to this, an additional 5km section of Line 1 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30 May 2025. Currently, the 15 km section of Line 1 connecting IIT Kanpur with Kanpur Central Station is operational. With this trial UPMRC is aiming to make Line 1 completely operational as soon as possible.
