Chennai, India (Metro Rail News): The work of the underground metro from Madhavaram to Taramani is likely to get completed in the next five years if contractors stick to their deadlines. The metro line will be beneficial in providing relief from traffic congestion.
The Chennai Metro Rail has resumed their construction work for the Phase -2 project work. The work has taken place as the contractors have started building the diaphragm walls in various locations across the stretch to create the underground metro between Madhavaram and Trapani. It comes under the Madhavaram to SIPCOT line, part of the Phase-II project. Diaphragm walls are beneficial in averting any settlement of soil. It is a box-type structure and must be built before the beginning of tunnelling work.
As per the official statement released by the CMRL, the building of the diaphragm walls take around 6-8 months of period. Moreover, it is also a very complex job. There are various locations like Chetpet, Purasawalkam, Murari Hospital, Madhavaram, Ayanavaram etc., where the construction of diaphragm walls has already been started. Germany has provided the trench cutters used to dig deeper into the soils. According to official claims, the tunnelling work is the most challenging task, and it will start after the diaphragm construction gets over. Moreover, more significant concerns are needed for the underground work to ensure the safety of neighbourhood buildings and roads.
