Delhi (Metro Rail News): The Golden Line (Line 10) of the Delhi Metro witnessed another milestone with the breakthrough of TBM Sonakshi at Vasant Kunj Station. This tunnel breakthrough was achieved in Package DC-08, which was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL).



About TBM Sonakshi
TBM S63B, nicknamed Sonakshi, is 1 of 4 TBM machines deployed by J Kumar on DC-08. In October 2023, TBM Sonakshi started its drive from Kishangarh Station to construct a 1550m long tunnel toward Vasant Kunj Station.

According to a press release from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Sonakshi has constructed a total of 1,107 rings, with each ring measuring 1.4 meters. The inner diameter of the constructed tunnel is 5.8 meters, achieved at an average depth of 23 meters. The press release further indicates that the new tunnel has a minimum depth of 15.7 meters and a maximum depth of 30.2 meters.


Package DC-08
J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. secured the contract for Package DC-08 under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro expansion project in March 2022. The contract, valued at ₹1,611.74 crore, comes with a 42-month completion deadline from the date of award.
Package DC-08 includes the construction of a 6.116 km-long underground section on the Golden Line’s western end, which runs between Aerocity and Kishangarh. This section consists of twin tunnels and four underground metro stations located at:
- Aerocity
- Mahipalpur
- Vasant Kunj
- Kishangarh
