Chennai (Metro Rail News): Another milestone has been recorded in Chennai Metro Phase 2 as Larsen & Toubro (L&T) TBM DZ1041 achieved its 1st breakthrough at Sterling Road Station on Line 3 on 9 October under package TU-02.

For its first assignment, TBM DZ10411, nicknamed TBM Palar, was deployed in January 2024 to construct a 708 m up-line tunnel between Chetpet Station and Sterling Road Station in 260 days (Approx 8.5 months).

Package TU-02
In May 2021, Larsen & Toubro grabbed Package TU-02 from Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL) at an estimated Rs.2550 crore spanning 12 Km with a 42-month deadline.
Scope of work: The scope of work under this package includes the construction of twin tunnels at Line 3 between Kellys Station and Taramani Road Junction.
Stations covered: Kellys, KMC,Chetpet Metro, Sterling Road Junction, Nungambakkam ,Gemini, Thousand Lights ,Royapettah Govt Hospital ,Radhakrishnan Salai Jn, Thirumayilai Metro, Mandaiveli, Greenways Road Metro, Adyar Jn, Adyar Depot, Indira Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur Metro, Taramani Road Junction.
The contractor will also be responsible for the construction of diaphragm walls, entry/exit structures of Chetpet station, Royapettah Government Hospital Station, Thiruvanmiyu Station, and part diaphragm wall of Greenways Road Station with launching and retrieval shafts.
