SURAT (Metro Rail News): The Surat Metro Phase 1 Project has progressed with the breakthrough of TBM Amrit at Chowk Bazar Station, which lies on the 22.1 km Sarthana – Dream City corridor. This development was achieved in package UG-02 / CS-03, which connects Surat Railway Station – Chowk Bazar Ramp.
TBM S25B, nicknamed Amrit, was commissioned in May 2023 from Surat Railway Station toward Chowk Bazar Station. After completing its 2886m First and final drive, the machine successfully achieved a breakthrough at Chowk Bazar Station on 19 August 2025.
Meanwhile, TBM Diya, tasked with constructing the parallel tunnel, is expected to achieve its breakthrough by December 2025.
Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had awarded J Kumar Infraprojects with Package CS-03.
Package CS-03
Contract value: ₹941.80 crore.
Scope: Construction of twin tunnels, and three underground stations – Surat Railway Station, Maskati Hospital, and Chowk Bazar – with entry/exit structures.
