RDSO Begins Safety Certification Trials for Chennai Metro Phase 2

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Project advanced as the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has commenced safety certification trials on Phase 2, Stage 1A, covering the stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Porur Junction of Line 4, in preparation for the commencement of passenger services later. 

As per the release, the safety certification trials were witnessed by Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director, CMRL, accompanied by CMRL Directors Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Thiru. S. Krishnamurthy, Director (Finance), Thiru. Manoj Goyal, Director (Systems & Operations), along with Thiru. A.R. Rajendran, Chief General Manager (RS, S&T), and other senior officials of CMRL and General Consultants were present during the occasion.

The safety certification trials commenced on August 16, 2025, and are anticipated to continue for a duration of approximately two weeks. Throughout this period, the evaluation of passenger ride comfort is being conducted at various speeds, with a maximum design speed of 90 km/h. 

This assessment includes a comprehensive verification of the traction and braking performance of the trains in conjunction with the track conditions. The successful completion of these tests will confirm that the new corridor and rolling stock comply with established safety standards, thereby ensuring passenger safety before public operation.

Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., MD, CMRL, stated, “The commencement of safety certification trials marks achievement of a significant milestone in the progress of the Phase 2 Project of CMRL. These trials, being conducted along the viaduct Section 1A, covering the stretch from Poonamallee Bypass to Porur Junction at 90 kmph and covered the distance within 9 minutes. We reaffirm our commitment to meeting the highest standards of safety and reliability. With steady progress, we are moving closer to commissioning the project for the benefit of the public”.
