KOLKATA (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the Vande Bharat express that runs between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri on 30th December.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor C V Ananda Bose and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were also present.

The seventh Vande Bharat express departed from Howrah Station’s platform number 22 at 11.45 am in the direction of New Jalpaiguri, the entry point to the northeast.

According to officials, the blue-and-white train will save three hours of travel time compared to other trains on the route because it travels 564 kilometres in 7.45 hours. In addition, there will be three stops along the way in Bolpur, Malda, and Barsoi.

Regular travellers, tea business executives, and visitors to the Himalayas in North Bengal and Sikkim will likely favour the Vande Bharat express due to its advanced passenger amenities.

There are 16 coaches on the advanced train, including two for the drivers.

While speaking earlier on occasion, Banerjee expressed her condolences for the loss of Modi’s mother Hiraben. But she said, “Your mother is also our mother.”
