PATNA (Metro Rail News): As Bihar approaches the assembly elections, the government is expediting efforts to commence metro services in Patna. As per the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Bihar next month for the inauguration of Patna Metro’s priority corridor.

The priority corridor is part of the 14.45 km Corridor 2 (Patna Junction Railway Station – New ISBT). This section covers 6.49 km of distance via five elevated stations:

  • Malahi Pakri
  • Khemnichak
  • Bhoothnath
  • Zero Mile
  • New ISBT.

To support the upcoming operations, three metro coaches arrived in Patna last month from Pune. The construction of 3 stations is expected to be completed by mid-September. To check the readiness of the project, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently visited the project sites, including the Metro depot at Bairiya and the Zero Mile station. The corridor was originally planned to be inaugurated on August 15, but the event was postponed due to delays in completing the necessary works.

According to officials, the metro depot is likely to receive an electricity supply within the next three days. Once connected to the power grid, the system will be ready for trials, which are expected to start from the 1st week of September.

At the same time, the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) is awaiting a formal confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the date of inauguration.
