Indian Railways all set to introduce world-class high-speed trains soon

New Delhi: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project – Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is a few years away, the Indian Railways is all geared up to introduce a couple of high-speed trains. These two kinds of trains “Train 18” and “Train 20” would replace Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains.

According to reports, these two world-class trains, which would be fastest in India when introduced, are being developed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and Indian Railways is planning to roll out two ‘Train 18’ by August this year.

Statements given by concerned officials-

  1. While ‘Train 18’ would replace Shatabdi trains, ‘Train 20’ will take place of Rajdhani trains in a phase-wise manner. Train 20 is likely to be rolled out on tracks by 2020. during trial runs the two trains clocked 176 km per hour speed. However, they will run at a maximum speed of 170 km per hour when commercial operations start. Gatiman Express, the current fastest train in the country, has a maximum speed of 160 km per hour. The steel coaches will be fitted with hi-tech passenger amenities such as LED TV screens, GPS, diffuse lighting system. Apart from many safety features, the set of trains will have ‘Automatic Plug-Type’ doors which will open and close automatically at the stations. The toilets of these coaches will be fitted with zero discharge vaccum based bio-toilets.

UP Govt. approves DPR for Agra, Kanpur and Meerut Metro project

Lucknow: The state cabinet approved detailed project reports (DPR) of the Metro rail route in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut on Wednesday. The Govt. also appointed Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) as the interim consultant to execute the preliminary construction work of the priority section, deposit, retaining walls, etc. of these projects and issue related tenders in anticipation of approval of the Center.

The Kanpur and Agra Metro projects will have two corridors each, while Meerut will have one corridor. All of these corridors expected to be completed by 2024.
