Kochi Metro | KMRL launches cheaper passes for regular passengers

KOCHI: An ease for regular customers as the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) launched passes at discounted rates, Aluva, Edappally, and Maharaja are initially the three stations from where the passes will be issued. There will be two types of passes like one pass for 30 trips, which will be valid for 30 days and the second will be of 60 trips having a 60 days validity.

Nuba CR, a rider the one who one who is logged maximum trips in the last year was handed a 60 trips pass by the KMRL MD Mohammed Hanish at the Edappally metro station at 11:30 am.

The pass can be issued only in a valid Kochi-1 card with sufficient store value. While the pass for 30 trips will be given at a 25 percent discount, the pass for 60 trips will have a 33 percent discount.

The validity of the pass shall start from the day it is issued. In case if there is no sufficient balance in Kochi-1 Card for pass purchase, top up needs to be done.

Only one pass can be added on one Kochi1 Card at a time. The Pass can be issued between any two stations chosen by passengers (say Station A and B) at the time of issue and the trip will be deducted when the passenger travels between the two stations said by the KMRL authorities.

If someone enters from a particular station and exits from the same then also one trip will be deducted. The stored value amount will be used if the entry is made from either station A or B and the exit is beyond the other station. As per the rules that are applicable for Kochi 1 card the surcharge and penalty amount will also be deducted.

Tender out for the first bullet train by NHSRCL to meet deadline

New Delhi: The central government is eyeing to roll out country’s first bullet train by August 2022. This is advancing the deadline which was fixed in 2023. In order to speed up work, National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has already floated the first tender for the Bullet Train project.

Central government is still facing resistance from locals for land acquisition in Maharashtra and Gujarat. As per the details the first tender is for constructing a bridge in Navsari district of Gujarat. NHSRCL officials are also engaged with residents to amicably resolve the land acquisition issue. This first bridge is part of the 60 bridges planned on the 508-km high-speed corridor.

NHSRCL is optimistic that the land acquisition issue is closer to being resolved. They feel that there is a gradual end to the stalemate over the issue. The first ray of hope is coming from Palghar in Maharashtra. It is here that the NHSRCL officials have been facing resistance from farmers with support from Shiv Sena and MNS.

It was an advertorial in Saamana magazine – a Sena mouthpiece that highlighted that benefits of the bullet train as well as compensation packages offered. The write hinted for a possible breakthrough in the long deadlock between the residents and authorities.

In a innovative move, NHSRCL decided to rope in women from the 73 villages where land has been identified for the project. These women are trained to interact and counsel villagers on compensation packages offered by the officials. They are also an important link between the villagers and NHRSCL engineers.

A 15-member women team from different blocks has been set up to give details on the compensation packages being offered and the exact land prerequisite.

NHSRCL spokesman, Dhananjay Kumar shared that they have been able to establish dialogue with all the concerned people in the villages. This is to ensure there are no misunderstandings and also they know what the officials are offering in terms of compensation.

NHRSCL are happy that the method is working as they now get entry into villages where they were barred from entering.

On the other hand women are engaged in documentation task enlisting the needs of the villages with regards to NHSRCL project. These include taking care of medical facilities to constructing a boundary wall around water bodies that act as a source of irrigation for multiple villages.

Out of the 1,400 hectares of land, NHSRCL has only acquired 0.9 hectares of land. The officials feel they will be able to stick to the timeline as they expect to begin civil works by December 2018-January 2019. In Palghar, the project require around 300 hectares of land. The total land acquisition cost has been set at approximately Rs 10,000 crore.

NHSRCL has decided to disclose the compensation matrix to all land owners and offer time to them to come up with necessary corrections.  The NHSRCL has also decided to offer a one-time compensation to agricultural workers as well as those who employmed in shops which are likely to be negatively impacted.

Navi Mumbai metro project delayed, commuters may start ride in 2020.

Mumbai: The city and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced that by Navi Mumbai first phase of the metro project will be ready by May 2019. Commuters will take the first ride only by April 2020, said on Wednesday.

A senior official said that The project has been delayed by a year as the planning agency has not been able to finish the development of the metro stations on time.

The first package includes six stations, the second package has five stations. For the first phase of the project, almost 11 stations are ready.

Senior public relations officer of Cisco, Mohan Ninawa said “The contract of building platforms was given to a consortium of Sanjose-Mahavir-Supreme. In the second packages, there are three sub packages. In which 1st sub package consists of stations 7 and 8, in the second sub-package station 9 and 11 and station 10 is in the third one.

Ninawe said that “We have received a few responses after we divided the second package. All formalities of awarding the contract should be over by this month-end or mid-August”.

The companies will take at least 10 months to finish work after the contracts are awarded, said by the officials from the engineering department.

Navi Mumbai Metro project is divided into four phases. A total length of this route is 11.10 kilometers. The first phase is now under implementation it starts from Belapur railway station and ends at Pendhar near Taloja.

Apart from eleven stations this route at Taloja a depot cum workshop is being built. 3063.63 crore is the approximate budget allocated for this phase. The second phase has been planned in between Taloja MIDC to Khandeshwar. The third phase will connect between Pender and Taloja MIDC and the fourth phase will connect Khandeshwar and upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) near Pannel.

Ninawe said “In the first phase we have completed 100 percent works of the viaducts (the bridges that connect the stations). The work of the railway crossings are going on in full swing and those will be ready by February, next year”.

Mrinali Sharma, 35, a resident of Taloja said The local residents are upset as Cisco is delaying with the project. “It takes around an hour to reach my office at Belapur by bus. Cidco is saying that by metro trains it will take just 18 minutes to reach Belapur from Taloja.”

Cidco was supposed to finish the first phase last year. Earlier this year, they said that it would be ready by May 2019. “And now they are delaying by another year. We hope this deadline will not change,”

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) got orders from the Hon’ble Bombay High Court to cut trees for the Metro line 3 but the Supreme court also taking care of the matter of transplanting trees to somewhere else.

MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) had clarified the number of trees cut during the construction and the number of trees transplanted. For the better future trees are very important and it is important to conserve them.

The judicial committee stated that MMRCL should take responsibility of trees. The high court of Mumbai appointed senior judges to lead the committee and take the matter more seriously and sort the grievances related to cutting down of trees.

The Line 3 of the Mumbai Metro, when completed, will be the first underground metro line in Mumbai. It would help in reducing congestion. The 33-kilometer metro line project will connect Cuffe Parade business district in South Mumbai to SEEPZ. The line starts at Cuffe Parade, will run through Nariman Point, CST, Girgam Mahim, Dadar, Bandra, Kalina University, Bandra Kula  Complex, Santacruz East, Nariman point and the domestic and international terminals of Mumbai Airport, via Andheri MIDC and terminates at SEEPZ.

Thiruvananthapuram | DMRC withdrawals the partnership, disruption in Light Metro Projects

Thiruvananthapuram: Decision of Metro Man E Sreedharan and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to back out of this Light Metro Rail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode has greatly disrupted the work progress. Now the Kerala government need to scout for a new consultant.

There were three proposed flyovers in the Kerala capital to support the Light Metro Rail and the designs prescribed by the DMRC team.

A senior official of the KRTC (Kerala Rapid Transport Corporation) told FE that the “Tender procedures to identify the new consultant are under way.” The state government last week assigned the KRTC with the task of finding an appropriate consultant to replace the DMRC.

The total project length is 35.12 km in two cities. Of the three flyovers for the Thiruvananthapuram Light Metro, the socioeconomic impact study for this project has been already completed and land acquisition has to begin. The similar survey for the second flyover is on process and the third is yet to proceed beyond the design board.

Without the DMRC partnership there is lot of distortion in getting the project forward. According to a letter that Sreedharan wrote to K Kamalavardhana Rao state principal secretary (public works), “The exit was caused by the state government’s reluctance to ink the turnkey consultancy contract for preparatory works of the transit system even 14 months after the DMRC had undertaken the consultancy.”

“He was unable to give an appointment to Sreedharan at the right time because of heavy workload,” admitted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. And insisted that there was no rift with the 88-year- old technocrat.

Total cost of Project: Rs 7,446 crore

As per the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), the total project cost for the two light metro projects will approximately Rs 7,446 crore. Which will exclude the funds needed for land acquisition, state taxes and money for works related to PPP, Rs 6,307 crore will be needed. The total cost project out of 20 per cent each will be shared by the state and Central Governments. The remaining cost 60 per cent will be via loan.  Rs 392 crore needed for land acquisition and state taxes to the tune of Rs 534 crore will be met by the state. Out of total cost the state will have to pool in Rs 2,187 crore.

Mumbai: A letter has been written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also heads Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) by Kirit Somaiya, BJP MP of Mumbai to increase the number of coaches from four to six for convenience of passengers  of Metro 1 which operates from Versova to Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor it’s the city’s only operational Mumbai Metro One route.

Line 1 started operations on 8 June 2014. It has the eighth highest passenger density of any metro line and as said Mumbai is the city which never sleeps works at the best, metro starts at it usual time The 1st train leaves from Versova at 05:20 hrs and Ghatkopar at 05:29 hrs. The last train from Versova will leave at 11:20 hrs. The last train from Ghatkopar will leave at 11:46 hrs.

In 2018 Metro 1 has touched 4 lakh passengers daily, it easily carries more than 3.40 lakh passengers daily on weekdays and ridership is lower during weekends. Mumbai Metro 1 is operated under Reliance Infrastructure-led Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL).

It’s been noticed that commuters have been demanding to increase the number of coaches. The year 2017-18 there is a growth of 13 percent in the ridership in the metro 1 corridor as compared to the last year ridership.

In a typical weekday Metro 1 carries out 378 trips, as the ridership is increasing the MMOPL has maintained to increase the number of trips and it would initiate procuring for new coaches or trains as soon as the need will be there.

The MMRDA that also has stakes in Metro-1 and being a stakeholder they said that they will check on the feasibility of adding more coaches.

New Delhi: On 5 July High Court issues the notices to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for two clubbed PIL.The first petition was filed by Puran Chand Arya which was clubbed by the court with a second PIL which was filed for New Delhi Municipal Council’s contractual sanitation workers who had dumped garbage outside prominent government buildings like the Rail Bhavan and the Shastri Bhavan in Lutyen’s Delhi, demanding regularization of jobs and better wages. On Thursday Bench directed that both the matters should be heard together.

Mumbai:  Commuters were in for a surprise when they had a celebrity travelling with them in Mumbai Metro. Film producer and father of Jahanvi Kapoor, Boney Kapoor took to metro over other public transport.

This seemed a bit surprising move given the fact that the producer and husband of late Sridevi avoid travelling in public transport. He is usually seen travelling in his car and likes to keep himself away from media glare.

Looks like Boney Kapoor decided to take the Mumbai Metro to avoid traffic congestion owing to heavy downpour. Kapoor seemed unfazed by the attention as he got down from his luxury car and took to the elevators to board the metro.

While the commuters kept on looking in disbelief, Kapoor walked past the crowd and got himself a ticket to metro. This morning there was heavy traffic and so Boney decided to take Metro and reach the destination faster.

He was spotted wearing a blue hodie paired with jogging pants. The shutterbugs caught his entry and were busy capturing this entry to the Mumbai Metro station. Boney was busy talking on the phone and did not show discomfort on being clicked. In fact, he even looked straight towards the photographer.

It is rarely seen a celebrity taking metro to travel within Mumbai. With Boney Kapoor taking metro, he has set an example of sorts for others to follow. He decided to chuck his car and hop on to a metro to avoid traffic.

New Delhi: On Thursday evening, a large incident was rescued when a part of the guardrail fell between Lajpat Nagar and Jangpura Metro Station in violet line. The railing fell down when the metro was passing from there. This railing collapsed over the subway. However, no casualties have occurred in this incident.

According to the information, between Jangpura and Lajpat Nagar station, the guardrail in the side of the track on either side of the metro fell. The railing was trapped in a metro door passing through it, causing the metro to stop immediately. According to the passengers, there was such a loud noise as the collision of the railings, such a blast occurred.

Passengers traveling in the metro were evacuated from the rear emergency door. There is no information of any harm to the commuters in this incident. DMRC said that this incident happened due to sudden rain and wind in Delhi.

Newly constructed violet line incident has greatly disappointed commuters. The incident might have greatly affected the commuter’s life. Since 2002 Delhi Metro is running but till now such incident has not been occurred, now this big question on DMRC that 16 year old constructed railing has never fell down till now and how 1 year newly constructed railing fell down in normal weather condition.

With metro expansion, the monorail project remains grounded

Chennai: Looks like Monorail projects are finding it tough to gain grounds in the country. Earlier it was the Mumbai Monorail project where the curtain came down. Now it seems Chennai Monorail Project too seem to have its faith sealed.  The ambitious project is grounded with authorities planning to expand metro rail network across Chennai.

The ambitious project of Monorail was announced by late chief minister Jayalalithaa. This project is not likely to take off as the focus is to expand metro network. The future of the project seems uncertain at the moment.

While participating in a debate for the demand on grants for the Transport Department in the Assembly, Anbil Mahesh, DMK MLA questioned the M.R. Vijayabhaskar , the transport Minister regarding the current status of the monorail project.

Mahesh during the discussion pointed out that the status of the monorail project which was talked about in the Policy Note of 2017-18 has not been mentioned in this year’s policy note.

Pained with the project being shelved, Mahesh reminded everyone that the monorail project was close to the heart of former CM Jayalalithaa. In a sarcastic tone he also added that with monorail dropped, does the ruling government think that Metro Rail, a project launched under DMK regime is an efficient mode of transport over monorail.

The ruling party during the discussion, intervened to explain the reason for dropping monorail. P. Thangamani, electricity minister shared that when monorail project was launched, it was planned for narrow roads. When tender was invited the authorities did not receive expected response. For this reason the project did not take off.

On the other hand, the metro rail project had taken off and this facility was extended to other parts of the city leading to high increase in cost.

The minister later on clarified that the monorail project is not dumped. It will be taken up post modification in routes and other dimensions.

As per the information, in the Policy Note it was noticeably stated that the Pallavan Transport Consultancy Services, the nodal agency for executing the monorail project, has been ‘attached’ to the Institute of Road Transport because of sustaining losses to the tune of Rs. 41 lakh.
