NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Spanish multinational Ayesa strengthen its position in the transport domain in the Indian market, where this year it celebrates its tenth anniversary.

The company has been awarded a significant tender of Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS), One of the most ambitious projects in the NCR.

The transport system will furthermore be cutting-edge in the country, as it will be the fastest in operation as there is still no high-speed rail network in place. Designed to run at a speed of 180 kilometres per hour, this forms a high or semi-high-speed rail corridor (as per its English definition), that will link the cities of Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. The 82-kilometre journey will be covered in 62 minutes, almost half the current travelling time required.

Ayesa will design four of the elevated stations included in the corridor (Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai). This is the first detailed engineering package awarded by the National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the state-run body that promotes these projects. The contract also includes two depots in Duhai and Modipuram.

This corridor is one of the three that the Government has established as a priority. It has been allocated a budget of around 3.8 billion euros for its construction, with the system expected to be operational in 2025. The entire plan foresees the creation of eight corridors.

The company has shared the information through a press statement.

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to issue notifications to acquire land for six out of the 16 Metro Stations on the K R Puram-Kempe Gowda International Airport Metro corridor.

This is followed by the joint survey of properties to be acquired, that was carried out by the Land Acquisitions cell of the BMRCL, The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board and the State government.

On January 10, 2019, The state cabinet approved the new alignment from K R Puram to the airport via Nagawara and Hebbal at a cost of Rs 10,584 crore. The costs almost doubled from the previously proposed route from Gottigere-Nagawara to KIA.

“We will be issuing preliminary notification for acquiring properties in Channasandra, Horamavu, HRBR Layout, HBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar and Jakkur areas immediately.” Said a senior BMRCL official

Notices to acquire properties in the remaining stations of Nagawara, Veeranapalya, Kempapura, Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Jakkur, Yelahanka, PRR, Trumpet as well as two stations at KIA will be done a fortnight later, he added.

“The 36.3km line will run elevated throughout and will go underground at KIA. Two Metro stations are proposed there. One just leading towards the airport, where convention halls and hotels are located to facilitate passengers who want to head to these destinations, and another in the middle of Terminals 1 and 2. So that passenger heading to any of the terminals will have easy access,” the official said.

The airport line will totally require 2,30,073 square meters of land for construction of viaduct and stations.

91,532 square meters will be required for the depots. Two depots, one near the airport and another depot at Baiyappanahalli will be constructed. “The Baiyappanahalli depot will have a Metro line running trains from there to KIA and back,” the official said.

BMRCL does not foresee any major land acquisition hurdles with much of the Airport line coming up on open land. “We need to acquire 40 houses for the Baiyappanahalli depot while 10 buildings need to be acquired in Kasturi Nagar area. The proposed Metro Station at that point though there has been cancelled,” he said. Land acquisition has already been completed for the Outer Ring Road Line from Silk Board to K R Puram.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Mumbai Monorail cancelled on an average around 40 per cent trips daily since its fully operational between Chembur and Mahalaxmi last month. This results in decreasing frequency directly increasing waiting time and travel time of Monorail commuters.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) making the whole corridor operational on March 4, 2019, said that they will operate 131 trips daily but it has been able to operate only 79 trips daily on an average.

MMRDA announced the performance of Monorail stating that it operates 79 trips daily on an average carrying more than 17,000 passengers on April 17, 2019

The reason behind lesser trips being operated daily is due to the availability of four trains out of the total of ten. In the past month, only two trains were functional as the remaining two are under routine maintenance.

MMRDA is struggling to procure spare parts for Mumbai Monorail and had also informally approached Malaysian Scomi Engineering that was terminated from operating Monorail in December 2018. Scomi is also the manufacturer of the Monorail trains.

Tthe waiting time of commuters has also increased due to the lesser number of trips being operated. Monish Makhija, a daily user of Monorail said, “Many times I reach the station and come to know that Monorail is late as not all four trains are functional. This increases my waiting time, and I also get demotivated from travelling in Monorail.”

MMRDA has been floated bids for appointing a new manufacturer who will supply 10 new Monorail trains.

The Mumbai Monorail project for which construction started in 2008 by a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Scomi Engineering, has been in news ever since its partial operations between Chembur and Wadala started in 2014. It got fully operational between Chembur and Mahalaxmi in March 2019.

FAILED PROMISES

  1. MMRDA had said that they will operate 131 trips daily but it has been able to operate only 79 trips daily on an average
  2. Due to the lesser number of trips, the waiting time of commuters has also increased

DELHI (Metro Rail News): Delhi Metro is well known to provide a comfortable journey for commuters, now also plan to save the environment!

Delhi Metro uses solar energy for almost 60% of its electricity needs and plans to run all its operations on solar energy By 2021. After this Delhi Metro would become the world’s first 100% ‘Green’ energy metro rail network.

At present, Delhi Metro needs an average 180-200 MW electricity daily for running the 373-km network and buying this electricity from separate companies on commercial rates.

Currently, DMRC produces 21 MW of solar energy. The corporation will start getting 99 MW solar energy from the 750 MW Solar Power Park in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh from May 2019.

Currently Delhi Metro has 271 Metro stations in Delhi-NCR and around 26 lakh people take metro ride daily. Delhi Metro is expecting to save over Rs 41 crore with the shift to solar energy.

In July 2019, DMRC had signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Madhya Pradesh-based Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) to get green power from the latter to run its trains.

The 750 MW solar power project in Rewa is spread on an area of 1590 acres and It is one of the world’s largest single-site solar power plants in the world.

“The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will get green power from the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMS) within the next two months. The project is estimated to meet 90 percent of the daily electricity demand of the DMRC. Besides, it would save Rs 1,400 crore of Delhi Metro in the next 25 years,” Said Madhya Pradesh Renewable Energy Principal Secretary Manu Srivastava.

The DMRC’s shift to solar energy will be extremely beneficial for NCR. The city was ranked as the sixth most polluted city of the world in the air quality data compiled by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated informal talks with Malaysia-based Scomi Engineering to procure spare parts for Mumbai Monorail. According to the Sources from MMRDA said that several vendors agreed to supply spares but are reluctant as they are still dealing with Scomi. On December 2018 MMRDA terminates contract with L&T-Scomi JV.

An MMRDA source said that many vendors are reluctant as they have some sort of arrangement that spare parts relating to Monorail can only be supplied by Scomi. So that officials have initiated informal talks with Scomi to procure the spare parts. The additional spare parts will help the smooth functioning of the four operational trains. It will also help repair the remaining six trains and make them operational. This will help in bringing down the frequency from the current 22 minutes to 45 minutes when two out of the four trains are sent for routine maintenance.

Since the monorail became fully operational last month, MMRDA has been struggling for procurement of spare parts. On Wednesday, operations were halted twice due to technical glitches. The MMRDA source added, “We have information that Scomi has some spare parts available with them in Malaysia. We have initiated informal talks with them.”

The monorail has carried seven lakh passengers in last one month from the date of operation. However, MMRDA has not released details of trains that were canceled or delayed in the first month due to technical glitches.

MMRDA has also floated bids to procure 10 trains. Three companies have shown interest in the bid apart from aiming to repair six defunct trains. The Mumbai Monorail project for which construction started in 2008 by a consortium of L&T and Scomi Engineering has been in news ever since its partial operations between Chembur and Wadala started in 2014. It got fully operational between Chembur and Mahalaxmi earlier this month. The MMRDA has spent around Rs 3,000 crore but has still not been able to run it efficiently.

MRN had earlier on April 08, 2019 reported as to how Larsen & Toubro along with Malaysian Scomi Engineering (LTSE) had warned MMRDA that by terminating their contract and taking over commercial operations of Mumbai Monorail, they have put the safety of public and the overall system at high risk.

Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 stations will be smaller than Phase 1

0
bangalore metro
bangalore metro

BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): The Phase II of Bengaluru metro rail project is on a fast track. The metro stations in the underground section of Phase II will be smaller in length than Phase 1 due to higher land acquisition costs.

In phase 2 corridor of Bengaluru Metro, 12 underground metro stations will be constructed in 72.1 km long section. BMRCL is the special purpose vehicle (SPV) and responsible for implementing the Bengaluru metro rail project. The new corridor will run along the Nagawara-Gottigere route.

The phase II metro stations will be smaller in length than the Phase I UG (underground) stations. The phase I have seven underground metro stations, out of which five are 272 meters long and 24 meters wide, and two are 240 meters long and 24 meters wide. Whereas, Phase II of 12 new underground stations will be 210 meters long and 24 meters wide. The decision to construct smaller metro stations is due to higher land acquisition rates. Most of the land acquired in phase-I is the government-owned whereas much of the land required for phase II is privately owned.

“Despite the limited space within the stations, there will be no compromise on passenger amenities and to ensure that all amenities are in place, an open space present in the existing concourse area of the underground stations will be closed and amenities will be shifted to that particular spot” Said BMRCL.

The proposed underground stations in phase II are namely, Pottery Road, Bamboo Bazaar, Shivaji Nagar, MG Road, Dairy Circle, Vellara Junction, Mico Layout, Tannery Road, Langford Junction, Venkateshpura, Arabic College as well as Nagawara.

The heavy civil construction arm of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which is an infrastructure giant, had bagged big contracts from BMRCL recently. The project work includes the design and construction of under-ground structures, specifically tunnels and stations of 2.884 km long from the Shivajinagar station to Tannery Road station and two underground metro stations at Cantonment and Pottery Town over the same metro rail line.

Hyderabad metro stations into activity hubs soon: NVS Reddy

3

Almost one-and-a-half year after the inception of Hyderabad Metro Rail continues to set new standards for public transportation in India. It is the second largest metro network after Delhi to opening an exclusive all-women metro station, Hyderabad Metro is proving out to be an inclusive initiative that is also building a greener urban city. The HMRL Managing Director, NVS Reddy shares plans for future expansion and explains how growing metro is facilitating urban rejuvenation.

How do you see metro facilitating urban rejuvenation?

Hyderabad Metro is slightly different from other cities metros. Here, it is a social project that offers us an opportunity to redesign a greener city for the citizens. All over the world, cities have been designed to accommodate automobiles but we have come to realize that we cannot build a city for cars. We instead built it for people, women, children and the differently-abled. This way we are incorporating more lung-spaces in metro stations. Miyapur station has close to 10 acres of land developed as a public space. Also, to reduce traffic congestions and growing carbon footprint, we have created sidewalks at stations. Also, places like Uppal and LB Nagar are now becoming commercial hubs owing to the metro. The land prices have risen from Rs 10,000 per sq yard to Rs 70,000 per sq yard in Uppal.

How is metro better organised public transportation system contributing to economy?

We have roughly spent around Rs 17,000 crore on this project so far. The total expenditure, however, is expected to be around Rs 20,000 crore. But all this money will be recovered through indirect investments. Take the Next Galleria Mall at Punjagutta which is not only generating revenue but also large amount of employment. We are now in the process of opening four more such malls next to various metro stations which will lead to direct and indirect large scale employment opportunities. Our intention is to turn metro stations into activity hubs and provide every possible service that a human being needs which helps cut down unnecessary travel time.

What are the last-mile connectivity options?

We have a few bikes and cars as it is just the beginning. There is a long way to go for which we are encouraging more companies to contribute to bikes, cars and electric vehicles. We will soon be installing mini and electric buses to reduce pollution. We identified traffic catchment areas for every metro station up to 3 to 4 km where last-mile connectivity will be expanded to reduce dependency on private vehicles. Hyderabad is adding 5 lakh private vehicles every year and our aim is to check this explosion.

On concerns on damage to heritage and religious structures:

We are ensuring that heritage structures are not touched. Old city is a completely different ball game and there are many complicated issues there. Local leadership initially raised apprehensions and that’s why the project got stalled. There are engineering solutions available and we will provide them.

What are the expansion plans?

We are in the process of bridging the 5 km stretch from Nagole and LB Nagar in phase two. Connection to the Airport is also a priority. By November this year, we will go up to Mind Space from were via the Outer Ring Road we will be laying an outlay for airport connectivity. Our goal is to connect to the airport from all the sides.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has told Bombay high court that it will install a CCTV camera below a Monorail station to get immediate alerts in case of a fire at a Wadala highrise next to it. It was replying to High Court query on its preparedness in case of an “unforeseen and untoward incident or an emergency’’ at the 22-story Bhavya Heights.

The residents of Bhavya Height wanted the staircase shifted as Dadar (East) monorail station had turned it into a fire-trap as its staircase was barely two meters from its entrance, leaving no space for a fire engine or an ambulance and they moved HC in 2016.

The court directed MMRDA to outline measures it will take to help the residents
On March 2018. According to the MMRDA’s reply, filed by a deputy planner, said before carrying out a mock drill, it had “strengthened and paved’’ open spaces in front of the building as per requirements of the fire brigade “to place a fire truck in case of a fire emergency”.

It also demarcated the open space as a no-parking zone for the same purpose and is deploying security guards of Mumbai Monorail to monitor it. It stated that “it is proposed to install a CCTV camera below the station to get an immediate alert in care of a fire incident and monitoring illegal parking or setting up of illegal pandals or any functions on the demarcated no-parking zones.” MMRDA is also following up with BMC to plant trees at the site, as required by the fire brigade. The reply stated that the

Monorail station has a wet riser system, FM200 gas-flooding system, communication system and face mask, which can be used in case of a fire at the station, as well as the adjacent residential and commercial building.” The matter is listed for hearing on Monday
