PATNA (Metro Rail News): The lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus may lead to delay in fulfilment of few infrastructure projects like flyovers, roads, foot overbridges etc. Various real estate projects might also bear the brunt of the lockdown.

Nand Kishor Yadav the State road development minister stated the projects were postponed keeping in mind the health of workers. “Thousands of workers and engineers work all day and night together to build a road or a bridge. It is obvious that we would face loses. However, our only concern under the present circumstances is the safety of our workers,” he replied.

The Managing Director of Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal told the building work will now be suspended till the lockdown lasts. Some of the key projects that have been put on hold are listed here.

Including Digha-Danapur elevated road, Lohia Path Chakra project and R-Block Digha road the work on few roads in Patna, under that short elevated roads and multiple underpasses are proposed to be performed at prominent traffic points among Lalit Bhavan and Vidyut Bhavan was supposed to be finished by the end of this year.

AIIMS-Digha elevated road and R-Block Digha road were aimed to be finished by May-June. More than 98% of development work had been performed on AIIMS-Digha elevated road a BSRDCL official stated.The Saguna Mor-Danapur road was to be turned into an 8-lane road this year by August. Other stalled road projects are Ganga expressway and Bihta-Sarmera road.

The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had approved the alignments of Patna Metro project. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation who is performing the project in a JV with the state govt had commenced conducting a soil test. The lockdown has delayed this project also.

According to the officials, it is the production of ventilators that are turning out to be a tough challenge. ICF Chennai had produced a prototype using ‘reverse engineering’ but it has failed. Many attempts are being produced. “Making the machine is not tough but calibrating it is the main challenge. All we can hope that we can crack it. So what we make has to be of the existing standards,” stated a senior official.

The country needs an official figure on the number of ventilators it has. Rough measures peg it at nearby 40,000. Several countries have also pushed into service non-health quarters to supplement its medical capability to fight the Coronavirus outbreak.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Many ministries and departments have determined to extend the discontinuing of public transport services over the country till April 14, 2020, in the extension of the steps taken for reducing the spread of COVID-19 by the Government of India.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Tuesday declared a complete lockdown in the Country for twenty-one days with effect from April 25, 2020. The PM urged people to maintain social distancing and put themselves in the self-quarantine mode.

Ministry of Railways has determined to continue the postponement of commuter train services on Indian Railways such as every Mail/Express trains, commuter trains, suburban trains and trains of Metro, Kolkata till April 14, 2020.

However, freight train operations will be maintained to assure the supply of necessary commodities to the citizens. Indian Railways is running only freight trains over the country since March 22, 2020. The railway is making all efforts to assure the availability of necessary commodities by their constant freight help.

“Meanwhile the situation of lockdown in many States, Indian Railways Staff deployed at many good sheds, stations and control offices are giving services on a 24×7 basis to assure that the supply of necessary things for the nation does not affect”, declared in the statement. A total of 474 rakes was loaded for necessary commodities such as food grains, salt, edible oil, milk, sugar, fruits & vegetables, onion, Coal and Petroleum goods.

KOCHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has determined to delay the safety inspection of the distance of 1.3-km Thykoodam-Petta stretch of Kochi Metro project that was earlier scheduled to be carried out on 25th of March. Thykoodam-Petta stretch is the final leg of the first phase of the Kochi Metro project and was assumed to be approved by the April 1st week. The Kerala govt had allowed the MD of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to commission the stretch without holding a public meeting.

KMRL delayed the commissioning plan as the CMRS security inquiry was rescheduled. Yet the fresh dates not declared. Considering the gravity of the situation because the Corona outbreak over the country, the Central govt had also directed KMRL to delay the commissioning plan of the stretch.

Shortly, Kochi metro rail services are operational on a 23.65 km stretch within Aluva-Thykoodam covering twenty-one stations. After the commissioning of the left stretch, the KMRL would be completely operational on a 25 km stretch under the first phase of the metro project.

KMRL had successfully led the trial run of the metro rail on Thykoodam-Petta stretch on Feb 15. “Commuters safety is our prime concern. We have to ensure commuters do not have any unnecessary social contact,” replied Alkesh Kumar Sharma, MD of KMRL.

KMRL has chosen to delay metro services till 31st of March as part of actions to contain the spread of COVID-19 on March 23. “Kochi Metro Rail Limited chose to suspend co-operation pursuant to directives from both the State and Central govt. The move is intended at arresting the spread of COVID-19 through ensuring social distancing and encouraging people to stay home for the time being”, declared Sharma.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Monday the Delhi Govt in their budget for the financial year 2020-21 allotted a whole of Rs 5,941 cr for enhancing the public transport infrastructure sector in the national capital. Rs 900 cr allotted for the Delhi Metro Phase-IV project.

With the plan to fulfil Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s promise of providing “the largest and cheapest public transport system” in the national capital, Dy. CM Manish Sisodia stated that the Delhi govt had fixed a target of taking the complete fleet of State-run buses to 11,000 and laying 500 km of Delhi Metro lines of Phase-IV.

Manish Sisodia also declared after a gap of around ten years new buses have been combined in Delhi’s public transport system buses with modern CCTV and ‘disabled-friendly lift’ have been included in the fleet for the 1st time in the country.

PATNA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made extensive changes in the alignments of Patna Metro Rail corridors (PMRC). From now the project to develop Golf Club Station in Corridor 1 of the Patna Metro Rail has been cancelled. Where Corridor 2, Premchandra Rangshala, NMCH, Kumara Park and Gandhi Setu Metro stations would not be developed. Now metro stations would be developed in Ramakrishna Nagar, Khemnikchak along with Jaganpura.

On Tuesday Bihar CM Nitish Kumar approved the fresh alignments of 32.12 km metro rail corridor proposed by Municipal Development and Housing Department as recommended by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The project cost would increase by Rs 179 cr after the change. There would be an entirety thirteen elevated and thirteen underground stations in the total metro project of Phase I according to the revised alignments.

In the Corridor-1, an elevated line would be built on Bailey Road from Danapur Kendriya Vidyalaya-Sagunamod and Bellerod Digha-AIIMS Road Canal. Where on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg the underground line from Gola Road would be up till Patna Junction through Mithapur bypass.

And the Corridor-2 would be underground instead of elevated from Patna Junction. On this route, there would be Dak Bungalow, AIR, JP Golmber, Convention Center, PMCH, Patna University. Some new station would be now developed at Moinulhaq Stadium and Malahipark.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has accepted to provide Rs 5,400 cr loan for the development of Phase I of Patna Metro Rail corridors (PMRC). The formalities of loan agreement signing would are developed shortly.

Minister of Urban Development and Housing Suresh Sharma announced after the completion of Patna Metro’s agreement, the way has been cleared to commence the development work for the metro project. Preparation to build the metro line from Rajendra Nagar Terminal-ISBT In the 1st phase.
