New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged-off the Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line that would allow hassle free travel for around two lakh daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana.
The extension of the Delhi Metro connects Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad.
The total cost of the project from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar is nearly Rs. 2,500 crore. Out of this, Rs. 1,557 crore was borne by the Haryana Government, the Centre contributed Rs. 537 crore, while the Delhi Metro provided Rs. 400 crore.
All these are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2).
“The nine-station metro corridor which was 95 per cent indigenously built will provide people a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable transport facility,” a Haryana government spokesperson said.
Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, addressing a press conference on Saturday, had thanked the Prime Minister for “gifting” the Metro service which would take the city to “another level of progress” with better connectivity with other NCR towns.
He had also said that the Prime Minister would be announcing the go-ahead for connecting Gurgaon with Faridabad by Metro.
PUNE (Metro Rail News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation celebrated the fourth foundation day of the Pune Metro project on Sunday.
Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and chairman, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation, was the chief guest. The function was held at the Phugewadi office of Pune Metro.
“I visited different project sites of Pune Metro with MD MahaMetro and the team. This included inspection of almost ready Sant Tukaram Metro Station and metro ride from there to the next three stations under construction and visit of the ongoing multi-modal hub at Swargate Metro station”, Mr. Mishra wrote on Twitter.

“Four years ago, the Pune Metro project began with three employees. A team was built in quick time, tenders were called and finalised and in a record 7 months, the actual foundation of the first pier of the Pune Metro completed. Pune Metro has completed at least 48 per cent of the work as of now”, the MahaMetro said in a statement.
Mr. Mishra along with Dr. Brijesh Dixit, MD Maha-metro and other officials reviewed the progress of work in the 24th board of directors meeting held at the Phugewadi office.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Ten firms including Adani Railways Transport, Godrej Properties, Oberoi Realty have shown interest in the redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The Indian Railways Stations Development Corporation (ISRDC), which will be undertaking the redevelopment work of CSMT at cost of ₹1,642 crore, had called for request for qualification (RFQ) in August 2020. The redevelopment work of the terminus is likely to start from December 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2025 according to a news report by HT. Firms which submitted RFQ include Adani Railways Transport, Godrej Properties, Oberoi Realty, ISQ Asia Infrastructure Investments, Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd, Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holdings Ltd, Brookfield Infrastructure Fund IV, Moribus Holdings Pte Ltd, and Keystone Realtors Pvt Ltd.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): It would cost Rs 1,200 for Agra and Rs 3,400 for Varanasi from the national capital in the Delhi-Varanasi bullet train according to the detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed high speed corridor. The DPR prepared by the National High Speed Rail Corporation has kept the train fare for Lucknow at Rs 2,300 and Rs 2,900 for Ayodhya as per a news report. “The train fares for various destinations suggested in the DPR are indicative in nature and not final. There could be changes in the fare structure in the later stage,” according to an official. Aiming at reducing travelling time between major cities, the high speed corridors are being planned across the country. There are various factors like project cost, paying capacity, type of patrons in the route are taken into account to decide the fare structure according to the official. According to Indian railways, the indicative fares of the Delhi-Varanasi High Speed Corridor are ranging between 1.3 to 1.5 times of the Executive Class fares running in the sections.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): As the nation gears up for the republic day celebrations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday announced it will operate partially on January 26 on the Yellow line i.e, the metro line between HUDA City Centre and Samaypur Badli stations. Besides, all metro parking lots will also remain closed from 6 am on January 25 till 2 pm on January 26, 2021 as a part of security arrangements for Republic Day celebrations in the national capital,.
The DMRC issued a statement today mentioning the changes on the Delhi Metro Entry and exit at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan Metro stations will remain closed from the start of revenue services till 12:00 noon.
Central Secretariat station will only be used for the interchange of passengers between Line 2 and Line 6. Entry and exit at Patel Chowk and Lok Kalyan Marg Metro stations will remain closed from 08:45 am to 12:00 noon.
KANPUR (Metro Rail News): Under the ambitious Kanpur Metro Project, construction works of 9KMs long Priority Corridor, comprising 9 Metro stations (all elevated) are being executed with tremendous pace.
“Engineers of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRC) are playing their part day & night to ensure the availability of a world class Metro system for Kanpurites under the stipulated time frame. In line with this objective, starting from 8.30 AM onward, MD Shri Kumar Keshav visited the whole Priority Corridor (Motijheel to IIT-K) and resolved various issues to enhance the construction works”, the UPMRC has said.
Tackle high traffic areas first
During his visit, MD has advised the Metro engineers to execute the construction works in the high traffic areas of the corridor on priority basis, to ensure the least inconvenience to the general public and commuters. Besides this, he also advised the Metro engineers to do further planning of the Metro stations in such a way that the available space can be utilized to the maximum with the objective of providing maximum comfort to the people after the introduction of Metro services in future.
During his inspection, communicating with the UPMRC staff, contractors and General Consultant, Mr. Kumar Keshav said that, “work on the strategies, while keeping the target of trial run on the 9KMs long Priority Corridor by November 2021 in mind.” He added that the preparations for bringing and installing the various key systems (viz. Electrical and fire etc.) for Metro operations are in line and the track laying work will also commence soon. In Kanpur, the civil construction work of the Priority Corridor was inaugurated by CM Yogi Adityanath on 15th Nov., 2019 and since then UPMRC’s engineers have been keeping up the pace of the construction works.
KOCHI (Metro Rail News):Kochi metro has been witnessing a steady rise in passengers since its resumption of revenue services from 7th of Sept 2020.
“From a figure of 4408 passengers on the First day, it has reached a ridership figure of 25162 on 09th Jan 2021. The cumulative ridership from 07.09.2020 to 13.01.2021 stands at 16.90 Lakhs”, it said in a statement.
As part of providing the first and last mile connectivity, Feeder auto services have started its operations in various metro stations and Feeder bus services were introduced between Kalamassery & Kakkanad. Airport feeder services ‘Pawandoot’ from ALUVA is resumed to make hassle-free connectivity to air travellers. Another initiative taken by KMRL is to Allow passengers to carry bicycles in metro trains, which facilitated cycle lovers to have an end to end solution for their travel needs, which was appreciated widely.
“KMRL during the post COVID period has followed all the Government Guidelines and taken steps to ensure safety of the passengers. KMRL has started mass communication and contract program with the passengers thorugh telephone, emails and telecalls to passengers to enhance the awareness regarding various safety measures taken at stations & trains and to encourage the travel in metro”, it said.

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): A major milestone in DMRC’s Phase 4 work was achieved on thursday as the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) of this phase started its drive to bore a 1.4 kilometre long tunnel from Vikaspuri to Krishna Park Extension on the Janakpuri West – R K Ashram Marg corridor in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh and other senior officials.
“Two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement will be constructed on this stretch which is a part of the 2.2 kilometre long underground section from Janakpuri West to Keshopur. The lowering and assembling process of this giant 73 metre long machine was started in October last year”, a statement by DMRC said.
The tunnelling has started from the Vikaspuri area in continuation of the Magenta line tunnel that has been already constructed for the presently operational Botanical Garden – Janakpuri West corridor.
The tunnel will be constructed approximately at a depth of 14 to 16 metres. About 2,040 concrete rings will be installed in these tunnels. Each tunnel will have an inner diameter of 5.8 metres. The entire tunnelling work on this stretch is expected to be completed in about 12 month’s time. The alignment of tunnel runs along the Outer ring road and below the multi-storied built up structures according to DMRC.
The tunnel will be built up with proven technology of EPBM (Earth pressure balancing method) with concrete lining made up of precast tunnel rings. The tunnel rings are being cast at the fully mechanized casting yard setup at Mundka. These concrete segments are cured with steam curing system to achieve early strength. This TBM will be able to carry out tunnelling up to 10 metres per day.
All necessary safety precautions are being taken while constructing the tunnel below the built up structures by monitoring the ground movements with highly sensitive instruments fixed on the nearby structures. After completion of tunnelling, this machine will be taken out from retrieval shaft being built with Krishna Park Extension underground station.
As part of the Phase 4 work approved so far, about 27 kilometres of underground lines will be constructed. The Janakpuri West – RK Ashram Marg corridor will have underground sections of 7.74 kilometres in total.
A TBM, is a machine used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and rock strata. They can be designed to bore through anything from hard rock to sand. TBMs have revolutionised the way tunnelling work is done all over the world as now tunnels can be bored without disturbing the buildings and other structures on the surface.
TBMs are especially useful for underground tunnelling work in congested urban areas. DMRC has been using TBMs for its tunnelling work since Phase 1. In Phase 3, when about 50 kilometres of underground sections were built, about 30 TBMs were pressed into service in the national capital.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): In its pursuit to further upgrade its world class training facility at the Delhi Metro Rail Academy(DMRA), Shastri Park, a new four-storey simulator building was inaugurated today in the DMRA premises by Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC in the presence of Directors and other senior officials.
Dr. Mangu Singh also inaugurated a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) in front of Shastri Park Metro depot. This FOB will allow pedestrians to cross safely the busy East Approach Road (the road leading from ISBT, Kashmere gate towards Shahdara across Yamuna) from both the sides.

– ETCS L2 signalling for Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor under the Make in India initiative
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News):NCRTC will pioneer the use of the most-advanced signalling and the train control system in India’s first RRTS. The adoption of the modern European Train Control System Level 2 (ETCS L2) signalling over the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) communication backbone with the adoption of state of art Hybrid Level 3, will make RRTS to have one of the most advanced signalling and train control system of the world.
In a recent development, Alstom India has been awarded the mandate for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Signalling & Train Control, Telecommunication & PSD Systems for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor. This mandate conforms to the guidelines of Make in India, including fulfilling the specific requirement of local content in various components, as specified by the Government of India.
As per different sources, the RRTS will have state-of-the-art systems that will mark many firsts in India. One of them is its signalling system which will be of one of its kind in the whole nation.
“Adoption of this signalling technology adds to the distinction of RRTS, as the first technologically advanced rail network in India to be operational with a design speed of 180 km/hr. This also strengthens NCRTC’s endeavour to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance operational efficiency and hassle-free safe travel experience for commuters”, a statement said .
A salient feature of the RRTS is its interoperability that will facilitate seamless commuter movement across corridors, without the hassle of changing the trains. The ETCS signalling system will be a key enabler to ensuring interoperability and train movement at quick frequencies, thereby reducing the waiting time for passengers.
This system will also be the world’s first to deploy the combination of the latest ETCS Standard, the latest Digital Interlocking and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) over Long-Term Evolution (LTE) radio. The platform screen door operation will also be integrated which will provide the utmost level of safety to commuters.
The procurement strategy for this system has been planned to make adoption of this technology vendor-agnostic for future RRTS corridors thus reducing the costs. RRTS will be equipped with the Automatic Train Operations (ATO) functionality that controls the traction system, acceleration, braking and stopping of trains. It will facilitate efficient use of energy and reliable RRTS service according to an official. The ETCS hybrid signalling optimises the rail line capacity by anticipating and modifying the train speed through continuous control and supervision via a radio-based signalling system to ensure commuters’ safety. It is inarguably one of the the most-efficient train control system in the world, encompassing multiple advantages in terms of maintenance, cost and energy savings, safety, reliability, punctuality and traffic capacity.
To avoid any possibility of accidental fall of passengers on the tracks, all the RRTS stations will have platform screen doors. The platform screen doors (PSDs) will be integrated with the signalling system, ensuring that the train doors and PSDs are synchronised. The train will start only after both train doors and PSDs are closed, thus ensuring full safety of the commuters.
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with the IC Centre for Governance today started a three day online programme oriented towards the inculcation of an ethical work culture among employees.
“Sh. Sanjay Kothari, the Hon’ble Central Vigilance Commissioner graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. In his address, he stressed on the importance of training for employees in the public sector as a tool for preventive vigilance. The hon’ble CVC also said that DMRC is an ‘Institute of Excellence’ with best practices in terms of an ethical work culture”, the DMRC said.
DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh, in his address spoke about the importance DMRC lays on maintaining punctuality. In 20 years, DMRC has constructed a network of close to 400 kilometres. Delhi Metro is running about 5,000 trips everyday maintaining a punctuality of 99.9 percent. The punctuality is measured in terms of seconds. If a train reaches later than 59 seconds, it is considered late, he said. The programme titled “Towards an Ethical Work Culture” will continue till 21st of January, 2021 and will cover various subjects such as ethical dilemmas and strategies to overcome, customer focus, inclusive leadership, preventive vigilance etc. The programme is being attended by DMRC officers from various departments. The IC Centre for Governance (ICCfG) is an International Non-Profit Civil Society organisation which is engaged in looking at important issues of Governance in the country. The organisation comprises very senior retired civil servants, bankers, professors, managers and trainers. They work to promote ethics in public governance at all levels of the government and public sector undertakings so that a new breed of highly ethical executives and managers are produced who will work towards the uplift of citizens of the country through good governance and building policy capacity.
