KANPUR (Metro Rail News): The pace of construction of Kanpur Metro Rail Project is unprecedented as 400 U-girders have been placed so far on viaduct out of the total 622 to be placed on the 9 km long Priority Corridor running from IIT to Motijheel with 9 elevated stations.

As a result, base of metro track for around 5 km has been completed so far out of the total length of 9 km of Priority Corridor.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) aims to start operation of metro trains on 9 km long Priority Corridor from December this year. On completion as per deadline, Kanpur Metro will become the fastest built and commissioned metro project in the world.

AFCONS has won the contract for this work in September 2019 with Bombardier Transportation (now acquired by Alstom) won contract to provide rolling stock and signaling systems for the project in July 2020.

Kanpur Metro also become the first metro in India to use double T-girders for a metro rail corridor which saves cost and time to a great extent. The casting of all 439 double T-girders has been already completed and the erection of these double T-girders is completed on 8 metro stations out of the total 9 metro stations on Priority Corridor.

UPMRC has also come up with an  another innovation in the form of ‘Twin pier Cap’ which is constructed for the Kanpur Metro depot line which will run from Gurudev to Geeta Nagar connecting the mainline and the Polytechnic Metro Depot.

According to the Managing Director of UPMRC, Kumar Keshav, “Twin Pier Cap is the second such successful innovation after the double T-girder, which has been implemented in the Kanpur Metro Project for the first time in the Metro Rail sector of India and it is a matter of pride for all of us. The credit for this goes to the research and innovation based working style of our metro engineers. The entire team of UPMRC, civil contractor AFCONS and the General Consultants deserve applause on this achievement. I am quite confident that the Kanpur Metro Rail Project will emerge as a paradigm for all other Metro Rail Projects in the country.”

In Phase-1 of Kanpur Metro Rail project, two corridors will be built. The first corridor (Red Line), with length 23.7 km, will have 22 metro stations and the second corridor (Blue Line), with length 8.6 km, will have 8 metro stations. Trail run is expected to start on Priority Corridor by November this year.

Pune Metro completes 30 metres underground tunneling beneath Mutha riverbed

0

PUNE: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has successfully completed the underground tunneling of 30 metres beneath the Mutha riverbed which is considered as the most difficult work on the 16.59 km Purple Line that will run from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate with 14 stations of the Pune Metro Rail Project.

Under Phase-1, Line-1(Purple Line) has an underground stretch of length 5.019 km from Agriculture College to Swargate with 5 underground stations. The work is divided in two packages – Package 1 from Agriculture college to Budhwar Peth and Package 2 from Budhwar Peth to Swargate. Both packages have been awarded to the JV of Tata-Projects-Gulermek.

Two TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines) i.e. S78 (Mutha) and S79 (Mula) were commissioned last month to build twin tunnels. Work on 1.6 km underground tunnel from between Agriculture College and Shivajinagar has been already completed. Tunnel work for the stretch between Civil court to Budhwar Peth started in March. After few days, Maha-Metro entered the riverbed of the Mutha river. The total width of the riverbed is 90 metres and of that, water flows in the 30-35 metres stretch while the remaining portion remains dry.

According to the Director of Maha Metro, Atul Gadgil, “We have crossed the 30–35 metres stretch beneath the river. We have almost reached the other side of the edge of the riverbed and we will pass it in the coming two-three days.”

With this work, Pune has become the 4th city in India after Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai to have an underground metro rail crosses the river.

In another news, around 2,000 Pune Metro workers have left the work as a result of lockdown imposed in the state of Maharashtra as corona cases continue to rise at alarming rate. This might result in missing deadlines for the project. Similar situation arise last year also when around 70-75 workforce left the work due to the fear of corona causing slow progress to the work.

According to MahaMetro communications team head Hemant Sonawane,” We had started vaccination for employees and told them they need not worry about anything, as work will go on. There were no issues with stay or food – everything is managed at labour camps. But many of those who still left are bachelors or don’t have connections around the city. The common sentiment is that in case they get infected by COVID, there will be no one around for them and they will suffer. Now, work will obviously be hampered and we might end up missing deadlines.”
At present, work is going on two lines of Pune Metro with Maha Metro has fixed deadline of June to start operation on 8 km stretch from PCMC to Dapodi (Line-1)and for Vanaz to Garware College (Line-2) stretch by August 15 of this year. These deadlines may miss if workers do not return for work.

InnoMetro: A global forum for discussion on innovations & technology in Metro & Railway

1

Innovations & Technology, these two words in the modern era are unarguably a source of inspiration and encouragement for many activities. These two words have significantly changed human life today and paved the ways for new dimension and explorations.

A developing country like India needs innovations and Technology in greater ratio to help people get more opportunities and make efforts for their livelihood in a wider set of options available for exploration of one’s skill. The latest technology, gadgets, input & know-how is not a fortnight’s story. It took experiments and innovations for thousands of years to reach mankind where it is today.

Letter, signs, and symbols for an example that human beings started with as a medium for his communication and conveyance of message has now been replaced with ultramodern smartphones, tools, and equipments, which may be virtual reality AI-based communication techniques coming few years. These few citing speak about the journey of innovations & Technology which had been parallel with the growth and development of human being through ages.

Its worth adding that Technology and innovation definitely has helped to add new dimensions in human life. People now can talk, discuss, integrate & communicate with any other in any part of the world without being physically in proximity, sitting at a place, seeing each other with all emotions and vibration intact on a number of virtual and digital platforms of telecommunication and teleconferencing to name Zoom, Google Meet, Teams  etc. are a few to name.

Needless to say that both Technology and innovations is the essence of life today. It not only is encouraging people to do something exciting and creative in one’s life, but it also is helping people to lead a better life. May it be walking, hearing or seeing aids, Technology-driven gadgets helping people cope with their limitations, augmentation, AI-driven technologies simplifying human life in whatever segment we can think of; innovation and Technology have created a new world. No doubt, there has been an ugly part of innovations and Technology too in the form of war, weapons and massacre but it should not be forgotten that it always has been the positive side which has given the world where we live in today.

Nothing inspires us more than fresh ideas. With this belief, Metro Rail News takes the initiative to conduct Innometro, a Global Event platform to explore innovation in the metro rail sector. InnoMetro is not just an event; it’s a rendezvous for an open discussion, a podium available to the key contributors of this sector to enrich our knowledge as to how can Technology be upgraded in Metro, Railways, RRTS, HSR and allied sectors.

A question may arise that what is the need of InnoMetro 2021? In what ways will it be different and contribute to a technology-driven metro and urban transport industry?

InnoMetro won’t just be an event; it would be a global platform that would showcase the information and knowledge sharing about the latest Technology and innovations being undertaken, at a single platform, under one roof.

We are of the firm opinion that every person in his life at some stage or the other faces some obstacles. Failure in our efforts is a part of the same story, but that doesn’t mean that we shall stop trying.

InnoMetro as an event and effort had been planned to be accomplished on a physical platform last year. But, the unprecedented Covid-19 scenario set the limitations, and it could not be executed. However, despite the pandemic conditions continue to set limitations, we are organising the event on a virtual platform this year from 28th April 2021 to 30th April 2021.

Today, we take pride of announcing the big chain of InnoMetro supporter’s worldwide to support this event as delegates, speakers, sponsors & exhibitors. We happily inform you that we have more than 100+ Speakers from 78+ County already registered with us for the event to date from big companies like CYLUS, Kalpataru Power Transmission, Sidwal, Fluid Controls, Green furniture concept, Hylco etc. More than 10+ giant conglomerates sponsor our event being the platinum, gold, silver and bronze sponsor. Last but not least, more than 2500+ industry experts from India and various other nations like Israel, Sweden, Thailand, UK, US, Bulgaria, and 78+ more have already registered themselves as delegates for Innometro 2021.

So don’t be delayed. Hurry up and register yourself as a delegate, sponsor, speaker for the mega event InnoMetro 2021 to learn and gain insightful experience and knowledge of urban transport, MRTS and the tech industry worldwide.
