Delhi Metro commences High-Speed WIFI facility in Yellow Line Metro Stations

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On Sunday, Delhi metro announced that it has successfully started the free Wi-Fi facility for the commuters in all the existing metro stations of the yellow line in the Delhi metro. The yellow line currently has 37 metro stations (From HUDA City Centre to Samaypur Badli). This is considered a major step by the Delhi metro authorities in order to enhance the travel experience for the commuters.

For uninterrupted high-speed connectivity, the authorities have installed more than 330 access points in the metro station which cover areas of Outer Delhi, Central Delhi, North Delhi, South Delhi and Gurugram. The commuters could access applications like Google, Facebook, Gmail, Whatsapp by logging into the network ID “OUI DMRC FREE WI-Fi”. They can enter their respective phone numbers and get an OTP. After entering the OTP and accepting Terms and Conditions, they can enjoy seamless Wi-Fi service. This service can prove a boon for the students who travel through the metro regularly.

It is noteworthy that the service is already available at all stations of the Blue line as well as on the Airport Express line. With the introduction of free Wi-Fi service in the 37 yellow line metro stations, the count has gone up to 94 stations of the Delhi Metro Network. The tough times of the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the services of the Delhi metro badly. However, this is surely a spirit lifter for the commuters in the upcoming festive season.

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Larsen and Toubro (L&T) engineers are set to complete and launch the first entire span Girder (40M) of Package C-6 for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor.

L&T emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing the 87.569 km Package C6 of the 508.17 KMs MAHSR or Bullet Train project in November 2020, after officials NHSRCL opened financial bids submitted by three infrastructure companies.

Package C6 from chainage 401.898 to 489.467 is the third-longest package of the entire line and connects Vadodara with Ahmedabad through one station and a minor depot at Anand-Nadiad. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 1,10,000 crores, of which Rs. 88,000 crores will be funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project completion deadline is the end of 2023.

Jammu and Kashmir metro projects are likely to start soon — Image Representation Only

SRINAGAR, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On Thursday, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri said that the metro rail project in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) would be approved by next week. Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir government has submitted a final Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of Rs. 10,599 crores for the metro rail projects in Jammu and Srinagar the MoHUA for approval on 19th September 2021.

Now, it’s expected that the project will be completed by December 2024. Earlier, the MoHUA has researched the passengers per hour per direction feasibility of the Light Rail Metro system given the economic viability. Following this, RITES Ltd shared a revised DPR and recommended Metro lite instead of Light Rail Metro, costing Rs. 10,599 crores. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provide funding for these projects, including Rs. 5,734 crores for Srinagar and Rs. 4,825 crores for Jammu.

After completion, Srinagar and Jammu will become the first two non-major cities in India to functional the rapid transport network. As per the given report, Jammu Light Metro will operate 17 hours a day round the year, while Srinagar Light Metro will operate daily during summers and 14 hours during winters.

The metro rail lines will have only elevated corridors as the underground tunnels are not found feasible. The coaches of the Metro lite system will be modern, lightweight, and made from stainless steel and aluminium with an air-conditioning system, as per the DPRs.

The Jammu Light Rail System will have a 23 KMs length with 22 stations between Bantalab and Bari Brahmana. In contrast, the Srinagar light rail system will have a 25 KMs length that includes a 12.5 KMs length from Indira Nagar to HMT Junction and a 12.5 KMs length from Hazuri Bagh Osmanabad with 24 stations (12 stations on each corridor).

KANPUR, INDIA (Metro Rail News): In view of the proposed trial run on the 9KMs long Priority Corridor (IIT-Motijheel) in November 2021, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) commences the testing of the signalling system in the Metro Depot, located near Gurudev Chauraha. The first train set is being prepared for trial on the test track in the Depot and before that signals are being charged and tested. The process is known as ‘Signalling Power On Test’.

Signal Installation Almost Completed in Depot & on Mainline
Total 29 signals are to be installed in the Depot, out of which, 27 signals have already been installed. The Mainline is to be equipped with 43 signals, out of which, 35 signals have been placed. Currently, signal installation work is pending at the Motijheel Metro Station only and that too will complete soon.

Metro Train to follow these colours!
Metro Train’s movement will be controlled with the three coloured signals viz. Red, Violet & Green. Red says to stop, while the violet signal allows for the conditional proceed (movement with a prescribed low-speed limit). This signal is shown when another train is in the vicinity. Green refers to the clear route and the driver (Train Operator) can proceed freely with the allowed speed limit.

One more kind of signal is there for movement inside the Depot. This signal has 3 white lights. When two lights glow horizontally, the driver is instructed to stop and when the two lights glow at a 45-degree angle, the train is allowed to proceed. This signal is called ‘Shunt Signal.’

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On 22^nd March 2021, NHSRCL opened financial bids for the “Project Management Consultancy Services Construction of Civil Works Packages” for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project. It includes supervision of all 13 civil works packages, including Viaducts, Concrete/Steel bridges, Tunnels (Undersea & Mountain tunnels), Civil work of all 12 stations, Maintenance depots, and Training Institute building.

According to our source, on 13^th October 2021, NHSRCL have given the PMC contract effectuation letter to the Tata led JV.

Joint Venture of Tata Consulting Engineers Limited (TCE), Consulting Engineers Group Ltd. (CEG), Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers & Consultants Private Limited (AARVEE), PADECO Co. Ltd, Japan secured the highest in the technical scores and quoted the lowest bid for an amount of Rs. 1111 Crores and were ranked H1 in the combined scores of technical and financial. The duration of the contract is 96 Months.

The bullet train is expected to run at 320 KMs per hour, covering the 508 KMs stretch from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in two hours. The NHSRCL has, to date, acquired 1,035 hectares of land out of the total of 1,396 hectares required for the project. Of the 74% land acquisition, 96% is in Gujarat, while only 25 per cent is in Maharashtra.

MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Work on track laying on Reach II (Sitabuldi Interchange to Automotive Square) is progressing fast with around 75% of the work completed. The stretch will be completed in December end.

The total length of the track (both up and down lines) is 14,173 meters. Of this 10,324 meters has been laid while 4,049 meter remains. In terms of kilometers Reach II is 7.1 KMs long of which work on 5.2 km is complete.

Reach II is an important stretch of Nagpur Metro. People living in North Nagpur will be able to use the metro when it becomes operational. The important localities catered to by this Reach are Kamptee Road, Gaddigodam, Kabdi Square, Indora, etc. It will provide connectivity to Zero Mile and Kasturchand Park and feeder services will enable commuters to reach government offices in Civil Lines.

Maha Metro is creating huge commercial space at Zero Mile Free Freedom Park and Kasturchand Park stations. People will be able to reach the commercial establishments in these stations using the metro.

The Union Cabinet is expected to sanction Phase II of Nagpur Metro in the coming days. Under Phase II, the Metro will be extended from Automotive Square to Kanhan (via Kamptee). Once this is complete, lakhs of people commuting to Nagpur from Kamptee and Kanhan will be able to do so in comfort using the metro.

BENGALURU, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB), a leading technology supplier for the freight and transit rail industries, inaugurated today a world-class global engineering lab at Bengaluru to enable rail component design and performance. The new facility is Wabtec’s largest lab in India and adds to the company’s growing engineering presence in the country.

The facility was inaugurated by Eric Gebhardt, Wabtec’s Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and Dr. Sujatha Narayan, Regional Senior Vice President, Wabtec India, along with key members from the Engineering team.

“The India site is an important engineering hub for our company,” said Gebhardt. “The Wabtec India Technology Center and this global engineering lab are vital to our strategy to develop sustainable solutions for our customers worldwide.”

This engineering lab has a 30,000-square-foot test lab area and 12,000 square feet for an operations centre and office space. The facility houses more than 30 complex mechanical, electrical and propulsion related custom-built test rigs. The objective of the facility is to characterize the performance, understand the failures, predict the service life of components, and validate design improvements.

“This new lab provides our team in Bengaluru the resources to design and validate products for our global and regional markets,” said Narayan.

Wabtec is planning to relocate and add test rigs to the new facility over the next three months. Some of the test equipment, such as the Resonance Type 1500 KN Fatigue rig, are unique and one of their kind in India. Engineers across the globe will leverage these labs for establishing dynamic characterization, comparing physical and virtual test results, component validations and development work.

“The Global Engineering Lab allows us to conduct ‘Smart Validation’ of products in the most efficient way, this approach enables us to do component-level testing versus system level testing,” said Gopal Madabhushi, Corporate Vice President, Wabtec Corporation “The lab’s innovative rigs allow us to design for various operating conditions, gain insights on performance in shortest possible time, which supports successful product launches.”

CHENNAI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): With many people heading to their hometowns because of the upcoming four-days Dussehra holidays and weekends, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) will extend its train operations till midnight on Wednesday alone. As a result, the Metro train services have been extended by an hour and will be operated till midnight.

Similarly, the peak hour services have been increased by two hours, and there will be a train every five minutes from 05:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Usually, the peak hour services are operated only till 08:00 PM.
