Kashmir ( Metro Rail News): On 6th June 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge, recognised as the world’s highest railway bridge, along with India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge. These developments signal the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) Project.


About Chenab Rail Bridge
The Chenab Bridge is recognised as the world’s highest railway arch bridge, standing at an elevation of 359 meters (1,178 feet) above the Chenab River.
This remarkable structure surpasses the Eiffel Tower in Paris by 35 meters in height. The Chenab Bridge is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL).
About Anji Khad Bridge
The Anji Khad Bridge is recognised as India’s inaugural cable-stayed railway bridge, spanning the Anji River and also part of the ambitious USBRL project.
This bridge is designed to ensure continuous rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, specifically along the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line.
The Anji Khad Bridge attains a height of 331 meters above the riverbed and extends 725 meters in length, relying on 96 high-tensile cables for support. The total length of cable strands utilised in the construction of this bridge amounts to an impressive 653 kilometres.
