ITALY (Metro Rail News): Forty-six new trains will be purchased with the investment, part of ATM’s goal for a more advanced and sustainable transportation system. For the first phase of the agreement, 21 trains worth 168 million will be supplied and used on line M1. The first trains are expected to start running in the spring of 2024.

Each train will be 106.5m long, composed of six aluminium cars with an uninterrupted view from the front to the end of the service. They will have a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

To increase onboard security, a surveillance system will transmit live video to the control room, and the exterior surfaces are made to be “particularly resistant” to damage.

Hitachi stated the trains would also have internal air conditioning and be less noisy than other services for greater passenger comfort.

The automobiles will be produced in the Italian Hitachi Rail facilities in Reggio Calabria and Naples.

Hitachi Rail is a global leader in the design and delivery of metro trains and systems worldwide in Italy, Japan, Denmark, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
