
MUMBAI (Metro rail News): MMRDA has proposed to build the car depot for line 5 at Kasheli. The project has been awarded to Ritwik Projects worth 589,56,02,078/-, the lowest bid received. The project will be built on 27 hectares of land. It will greatly help the maintenance and commissioning of metro lines.
The project includes implementing a ballastless track for the main line and a ballasted track for the depot. Metro Line 5 stretches 24.9 Km, covering Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan, which is being developed in 2 phases. The work on the 11.9 Km route between Thane & Bhiwandi is nearly 80% done.
The depot will serve the metro corridors for operations, train parking & repairs, heavy equipment handling & testing, cleaning & periodic inspections. It will have a capacity of parking 30- cars at a time & will be featured with facilities like a stabling yard, a hazard store, a workshop, a test track, etc.
The project is expected to be completed by March 2026.
