Mumbai Metro: TBM Dhruv Achieves Breakthrough at Airport Colony Shaft for Line-7A

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Mumbai Metro Rail Project progressed as J Kumar Infraprojects’s (JKIL) TBM Dhruv achieved breakthrough at the Airport Colony Shaft for Mumbai Metro 7A ( Red Line), which spans 3.17 km between Andheri and CSIA Terminal through 2 stations. TBM Dhruv recorded this development under Package CA-48 of the Mumbai Metro.

TBM Dhruv (T60) is a Ø6.68m dual-mode Terratec machine. TBM Dhruv was previously deployed by J Kumar – CRTG JV from 2018 to 2021 for Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) Package UGC-05, which spans 4.94 km from Dharavi Station to CSMIA T1, and 4.45 km Package UGC-06, which connects  CSMIA T1 and Marol Naka. 

For its first and only Assignment, TBM Dhruv started its tunnelling drive from CSMIA’s Terminal 2 Station’s shaft and constructed a 1.65 km tunnel for the up-line towards Airport Colony Ramp in 19 months. TBM Disha, working for the parallel down-line, achieved a breakthrough in April 2025.

In September 2019, J Kumar Infraprojects bagged Package CA-48 from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at Rs. 1,998 Crores.The scope of work under this Package includes construction of  Line-7A’s viaduct, ramp, underground tunnels and 2 stations at Airport Colony and CSIA Terminal 2.

Recently, NCC Ltd received LoA worth 2,269 crore from MMRDA for executing various critical works in Package 1-CA-232 of Line 6 of the Mumbai Metro. To know about the full News: Click Here. 

Additionally, to increase the connectivity and alleviate the traffic in the city, MMRCL has submitted a proposal to the government of Maharashtra for a new underground metro corridor (Line 11), which will serve as the extension of Line 4 (Green Line). To know about the full News: Click Here.
