Kolkata Metro: TBM S-1410A Passes Factory Acceptance Test For Purple Line

Kolkata (Metro Rail News): Herrenknecht AG, a prominent tunnel boring machine (TBM) manufacturer, successfully completed the factory acceptance test (FAT) for TBM S-1410A in Alinjivakkam, Tamil Nadu, last week.

The TBM will be deployed by Larsen & Toubro ( L&T) for 5.05 km underground  Package UG1 of Purple Line ( Line 3) spanning 15.215 km from Joka to Esplanade through 12 stations.

Package UG1 of Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured the civil construction contract for Package UG1 of the Kolkata Metro Line-3, with a contract value of ₹2,447 crore. RVNL appointed  Yuksel Proje–Tumas JV as the project’s General Consultant (GC) in 2021.

The scope of work under this package includes the twin tunnels between Mominpur and Esplanade running through 4 undergrounds of Kolkata Metro’s Purple line.

L&T officially began construction work on Package UG1 of Kolkata Metro Line-3 in May 2024, with initial activities starting at the Victoria Memorial Station site located in Maidan.

In July 2024, L&T initiated the production of tunnel ring segments at its casting yard in the Sarkarpool area of Maheshtala, which is close to Majerhat Station on Kolkata Metro Line-3.

This TBM will likely be deployed from a launch shaft situated at St. Thomas School. From this point, they will advance northward toward Victoria.
