Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has reported that its subsidiary, Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Private Limited (JTRFPL), has secured a supply contract from the Railway Board, Ministry of Railways. The order covers the production and delivery of 9,000 axles designed for LHB coaches fitted with FIAT-IR bogies, with the overall value estimated at around ₹113 crore.
The order reflects Jupiter Group’s increasing role in the supply chain for passenger rail systems in India and supports the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to modernise railway operations.
The supply of LHB axles, designed with precise engineering standards, will contribute to maintaining the performance, safety, and durability of the LHB coach fleet equipped with FIAT-IR bogies. These axles are a critical part of the FIAT-IR bogie, which is the standard underframe technology for the newer generation of LHB passenger coaches in India.
As part of its long-term capacity expansion, Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) is investing about ₹2,500 crore in setting up a forged axle and wheel manufacturing facility in Odisha. The project is scheduled for completion by 2027 and is designed to produce up to 100,000 forged wheelsets annually, targeting both Indian Railways and export markets, including the European Union.
In addition to this upcoming facility, JWL’s Aurangabad plant is already supplying approximately 10,000 wheelsets per year, establishing a steady presence in the rail components supply chain.
Within this framework, the recent order from the Ministry of Railways for the supply of 9,000 LHB axles further consolidates JWL’s role in passenger rolling stock manufacturing and outlines its ability to deliver precision-engineered components to meet the evolving requirements of Indian Railways.
