First TBM of Agra Metro passes factory test

AGRA (Metro Rail News): Robbins, manufacturer of tunnel boring machines (TBMs), completed factory acceptance testing (FAT) on 215-323, the first of two rebuilt tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for underground Package AGCC-02 of the 29.40 km Agra Metro Phase 1 project, in late October.

Earlier, the CEC-CICI JV used its 6.52 m Earth Pressure Balance TBM to construct the 2.35 km of Package UG-1B for the Jaipur Metro Phase 1 project between the Chandpole and Badi Chaupar stations. The project’s final breakthrough was made in July 2017.

The equipment was subsequently transported to Robbins’ yard in Gurgaon’s Sector 74, which underwent a thorough refurbishment.

Afcons Infrastructure- Sam India Jv used a machine and another refurbished TBM in Agra to construct a 14.25 km Line-1 7.93 km RBS College Ramp -the Taj Mahal Ramp section.

The contract for this portion, worth Rs. 1819.79 crores, was awarded to the Afcons-SAM Consortium by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in March 2022, with a 48-month completion period.

Twin tunnels connect the seven stations, the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, SN Medical College, Agra College, Raja ki Mandi, and RBS College as part of their portion from chainage 3630.000 to 11564.485.
