As part of its expansion plan in Phase 5, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has made a proposal to establish a metro link between Sahibabad and Noida Electronic City by extending the Blue Line. The decision stems from the growing focus on multimodal connectivity.
The 5.1 km long extension of the Blue Line will serve the key areas, including Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhara Sector 5, and Sahibabad. This corridor has long been in the pipeline of DMRC, but in the absence of sufficient funds, it could not be materialised. Following this, the extension plan was stalled in 2018.
The Delhi Metro Phase 5 is likely to have 18 metro corridors, of which 4 corridors will come up in Ghaziabad. All 4 proposed corridors have been mentioned below:
Route | Length | Type | No. of Stations | Key Stations | Associated Line |
Shaheed Sthal to Ghaziabad Railway Station | 3 km | Not specified | 1 | Ghaziabad Railway Station | Extension of Red Line (Shaheed Sthal end) |
Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad | 5.1 km | Not specified | 5 | Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhara Sector 5, Sahibabad | Extension of Blue Line (Noida Electronic City end) |
Vaishali to Mohan Nagar | 5 km | Not specified | 4 | Prahladgarhi, Vasundhara Sector 14, Mohan Nagar | Extension of Blue Line (Vaishali end) |
Gokulpuri to Arthala via Hindon Terminal | 12 km | 4 km Underground, 8 km Elevated | 8 | Hindon Civil Terminal, Arthala | Extension of Pink Line (from Shiv Vihar/Gokulpuri) |
Recently, DMRC instructed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to begin DPR work of these 4 proposed corridors as reported by TOI. The total length of these 4 corridors stands at 25km, and the construction of these corridors will likely cost about Rs 7,500 crore.
