
NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) limited celebrated Its Silver Jubilee ceremony on May 3, 2019, on the occasion of its 25th Foundation Day. Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the function as the chief guest in Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
“Delhi Metro is the pioneer in Metro expansion in the country. It is the symbol of the progress the country has made in the last few years.” Said Vice President Naidu, Speaking about the popularity that the DMRC has achieved over the past two decades.

The Vice President congratulated Delhi Metro for entering the 25th year and lauded the commendable efforts of DMRC in providing world-class services. He urged urban administrators to focus more on exploring different forms of public transport to decongest the urban space.
Like the Netherlands, our countries also need to promote green modes of transport as a means of public transport and facilitated the use of cycles and other modes of transport to ease pedestrians.
Shir Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Chairman DMRC Vijay Dev, Delhi Chief Secretary and Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director of DMRC and other DMRC officials graced the event.
“Currently about 657 km of the metro network is spread across various cities in the country out of 410 km have been made operational in the last five years and about 802 km of the network is under construction across the country.” Said Durga Shankar Mishra.
Talking about Delhi-Meerut Regional Rail link, Mr. Misra Said that The work on the 82 km long corridor is underway that would be covered in less than one hour having 16 stations. We are doing planning exercise for two other RRTS as well, Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar, and DPRs for these two projects are being made. We will very soon begin work.
DMRC was registered on 3rd May in 1995 under the Company Act, 1956 and its first stretch between Shahdara and Tis Hazari measuring 8.4 km was opened in 2002. Its current Network is 373 km with 271 operating stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line, and its average daily ridership is about 30 lakh.
