The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four major multi-tracking railway projects with a combined investment of approximately ₹24,634 crore. Together, these projects will expand the Indian Railways network by around 894 km, covering 18 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh.
The approved multi-tracking projects include:
- Wardha–Bhusawal (3rd and 4th lines) – 314 km in Maharashtra
- Gondia–Dongargarh (4th line) – 84 km across Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh
- Vadodara–Ratlam (3rd and 4th lines) – 259 km across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh
- Itarsi–Bhopal–Bina (4th line) – 237 km in Madhya Pradesh
These projects are expected to enhance rail capacity, efficiency, and operational flexibility along key routes while improving connectivity for approximately 3,633 villages with a combined population of about 85.84 lakh. They also cover two Aspirational Districts—Vidisha and Rajnandgaon.
Planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, these initiatives emphasize integrated infrastructure development through coordinated planning and stakeholder collaboration. By boosting multi-modal connectivity and logistical efficiency, the projects aim to provide seamless movement of passengers, goods, and essential services across regions.
