TBM Parvati Breakthrough at Kakadeo Station of Kanpur Metro Line 2

KANPUR (Metro Rail News): The Kanpur Metro project progressed as Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) – Gulermak JV’s TBM Parvati achieved a breakthrough at Kakadeo station of Line 2, which spans 8.38 km between Agriculture University and Barra-8 covering 8 stations. 

TBM Parvati (S-840C), a refurbished Ø6.5m Herrenknecht mixed-shield Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) tunnel boring machine is the 7th TBM commissioned for the underground tunneling works of the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 Project.

For its first assignment, TBM Parvati constructed a 750 m tunnel for the upline from Rawtapur to Kakedeo. Prior to this, the TBM Gomati had also completed the construction of the ‘down-line‘ tunnel up to Kakadeo.

TBM Parvati is the third TBM deployed for Package KNPCC-11. KPIL – Gulermak JV bagged the package KNPCC-11 from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in December 2023 at Rs. 762.50 crores with a 30-month deadline.

The scope of this package covers the construction of twin tunnels between Agriculture Depot and Double Pullia Ramp, along with three underground stations.The stations have been mentioned below: 

Stations: Rawatpur, Kakadeo, Double Pullia

Brief Scope: Design and Construction of TBM Tunnel, Cut and Cover Tunnel, ramp after Double Pullia, ramps in Agriculture Depot for main line and depot connections and three underground metro stations (viz. Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia) including Architectural finishes etc. on Corridor-2 of Kanpur MRTS Project at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.
