Bengaluru (Metro Rail News): The Bengaluru Suburban Rail project advanced as Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) opened technical bids for the contract to supply 19000 MT of head-hardened rails and 3 firms have submitted bids for the same contract.
The rails will be of 60E1 – 1080 grade as specified in Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009.
These rails will undergo a specialized heat treatment process to ensure:
- Enhanced strength
- Reduced residual stress
- Increased track durability
- Lower maintenance requirements
K-RIDE floated a tender for this contract in September 2024 with a Rs. 135.30 crore estimate and a 1-year deadline.

Scope of Work
The 19000 MT of head-hardened rails will be utilised for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project’s Corridor 2 (Mallige Line) spanning 23.86 km from Baiyyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara and Corridor 4 (known as Kanaka Line) which spans 46.88 km and links Heelalige – Rajanukunte.

Track Related contracts for BSRP status :
This is the 3rd track-work-related contract for the entire Bengaluru Suburban Rail project which has reached the technical bid opening stage. The other two contracts are mentioned below:
- In October 2024, 4 firms submitted bids for Corridor 2’s ballastless/ballasted track work b Benniganahalli and Chikkabanavara including Soladevanahalli Depot
- In November 2024, JSPL was the only bidder for the contract to Supply of 2250 MT 60E1880 Grade Rails.
Further Information
The bids submitted by three firms have now been sent for technical evaluation. After the completion of the technical evaluation, the financial bids of the qualified bidders will be opened to reveal the lowest bidder of the contract.
