BENGALURU (Metro Rail News): KR Puram-KIA line of Bengaluru Metro achieves a major breakthrough with the launching of the first two sets of U-girders close to Chikkajala.
The line under package 3 spans 15.1km connecting IAF Yelahanka to KIA terminal. A total of 784 U-girders would be launched in package 3, as confirmed by the Chief Engineer of BMRCL, DC Nataraj.
On 14th April at 5 am in morning, the work for the first set was finished, and with the experience of the previous set, the second set was finished 90 minutes early. Finally, on 16th April, it was completed by 4 am in the morning.
The length of each girder is 28 meters with a weight of 165 tonnes which is lifted by the cranes. According to Nataraj, each girder is delivered by a trailer from the Doddajala yard where it is cast, and he said that the stretch was on track to meet the deadline.
He further informed that out of 2,172 piles required for the pile foundation work, 1,619 have been completed. Furthermore, he informed that the pile cap has been finished for 244 out of the total of 489 piles, while 195 out of 489 piers and 87 out of 308 pier caps are ready. It is worth noting that the Centre has set a deadline of June 2026 for the completion of the entire airport line.
