BANGALORE (Metro Rail News): Progress on Bangalore Metro Phase 3 has been slower than anticipated, primarily due to delays in pre-construction activities. Key processes such as land acquisition, utility relocation, and tree transplantation are moving at a slower pace, according to officials familiar with the project status. These preparatory stages are critical, as they directly influence the commencement and sequencing of civil works.

During the second and final round of environmental stakeholder consultations, which commenced on 13 September and will conclude on 17 September, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) presented updated timelines for the project as reported by DH. As per the revised schedule, construction activities for Phase 3 are expected to begin in June 2026, with trial runs and commissioning targeted for May 2031.

The opening of  44.65 km Phase 3 will extend the Bangalore Metro network to 222.2 km.

According to project authorities, the number of trees identified for removal under Bangalore Metro Phase 3 has been revised from the earlier estimate of 11,137 to approximately 6,700. To mitigate the ecological impact, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has proposed a compensatory afforestation program within Bengaluru’s urban limits, under which ten native species will be planted for every tree removed.

Officials further clarified that approvals for tree cutting are typically granted in phases. This phased approach ensures that tree removal is limited to the specific stretches where civil works are scheduled, thereby minimising premature ecological disruption.
