AHMEDABAD (Metro Rail News): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has announced that the trial runs for the 20 km long Phase 2 stretch from Motera to Gandhinagar will commence by March or April.
Trial Runs
The trial runs will be done between Motera & Sector 1 in Gandhinagar via the GIFT City. Additionally, even the passenger services would begin at Gandhinagar Sector-1 and extend to the entire stretch by the end of this year.
A conundrum of Dates
The press release by GMRC states that the trials on the stretch will begin by March or April. However, the officers claim mid-March as no trials could be conducted after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Cable-Stayed Bridge
The construction of the cable-stayed extradosed bridge over the Narmada main canal, connecting the area between Narendra Modi Stadium and Gandhinagar, is reaching its final stages. This innovative bridge boasts a central span measuring 145 meters, complemented by end spans of 79 meters, supported by two impressive pylons standing at 28.1 meters high.
Remarkable progress has been achieved, with work on the pylons and 100 out of 105 segments already completed in record time. The bridge is expected to be fully constructed shortly, paving the way for the subsequent installation of tracks and the third rail.
A Tale of Milestones
According to metro officials, the entire stretch leading up to Mahatma Mandir is expected to be completed by year-end. The Thaltej to Thaltej Gam section is also slated for completion within the same timeframe. Following the elections, plans are being made to inaugurate the Sabarmati metro station.
