Lucknow (Metro Rail News): On 9 January 2025, Arun Soil Lab Pvt. Ltd bagged the Rs. 58.76 lakh contract (Package LKGS-01) to conduct a geotechnical soil investigation for Lucknow Metro Phase 1B from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC).
Package LKGS-01 is the second contract after the topographical contract LKTS-01, which was awarded to Epitome Geotechnical Services.
Scope Of Work
The awarded contractor will be responsible for conducting a Detailed Geo-Technical Survey of the East-West Corridor (Charbagh to Vasantkunj) including the Depot at Hardoi Road Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project.
Objective Behind Geotechnical Investigation
The primary objective of geotechnical investigation is to gather comprehensive data on sub-soil conditions to facilitate:
- Detailed Structural Design: The data from soil investigation will assist contractors in developing accurate and safe design plans for foundations and other structural elements.
- Construction Techniques: The obtained data will also help contractors in selecting suitable machinery, construction methods, and advanced technology based on ground conditions.
Additionally, this data will help to ensure minimal disturbance or damage to surrounding buildings and infrastructure during construction activities.
Bidding process
UPMRC floated a tender for the geotechnical soil investigation contract in August 2024 with a Rs. 77.21 lakh estimate and a 3-month (90-day) deadline.
In October 2024 technical bids were opened for the contract revealing that 5 firms qualified for the contract while 6 firms were disqualified.
On 8 January 2025, financial bids were opened to reveal the financial bid values of the 5 firms.

About Lucknow Metro Phase 1B
In January 2024, Uttar Pradesh’s government approved the construction of Lucknow Metro Phase 1 at an estimated cost of Rs. 5801.05 crore.
As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) Phase 1B of Lucknow Metro comprises one corridor ( Line 2) spanning 11. 165 km Charbagh Railway Station to Vasant Kunj with 12 stations
The elevated section spans 4.286 km with 5 stations between Vasant Kunj – Thakurganj while the underground stretch spans 6.879 km with 7 stations between Charbagh – Niwazganj.
