TELANGANA (Metro Rail News): Telangana government is asking Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri to grant an “in principle approval for BHEL to Lakdikapul project costing 8,453 crore as a jointly owned project of Central and State governments with external financial assistance,” it appears that the much-anticipated fast metro to Hyderabad International Airport has taken a back seat.

K.T. Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, requested Mr Puri in a message to include the project in the Union Budget 2023–24. On 14th November, a copy of the letter was shared with the media.

This project, which will be completed in two phases, is now known as Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and will cover 31 km. One of the components will involve the overhead line, which will start at BHEL and travel 26 km to Lakdikapul, having 23 stations.

The second part will extend the four-station, 5-km-long Nagole to the L.B. Nagar line. The current Red (Corridor One – Miyapur to LB Nagar) and Blue Line (Corridor Three – Raidurg to Nagole) of the Hyderabad Metro Rail’s first phase would be connected by this.

Mr Rama Rao informed the Minister that he had requested a meeting time to introduce himself personally and discuss the issue. However, Special Chief Secretary (MA&UD) Arvind Kumar has provided him with the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) created by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and all pertinent documents to prevent any processing delays.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail’s 69 km first phase has been successfully commissioned and is fully operational; he informed the Minister. It is the largest public-private partnership project in history, with funding from the Center for Viability Gaps.

Hyderabad has had a significant real estate boom since 2019 and is expanding quickly. He added in the letter that it has become crucial to strengthen and expand the public transportation system in light of opening offices and to ease movement restrictions.
